How to tune TV to watch DVDs?

Hope somebody can help please.
I have an LG TV, a Humax and an Alba DVD player.

I can't work out how to set a channel on the TV so that I can watch a DVD - I seem to have tried all combinations of buttons on all 3 remotes but nothing works.

I have a scart lead from the Humax to the DVD and another scart lead from the Humax to the TV. There is also a Wii connected to the TV by three coloured plugs.

When I select Input on the TV remote the Humax is AV1 and the Wii is AV2.

I'd be very grateful for some assistance.

If you have a second SCART socket on the TV, connect the DVD to that.

There's only one scart socket on the TV.

Sorry, what's a 'pass'? There's a short black lead with aerial ends between the Humax and the TV, then the main aerial lead.

I'm sure this is exactly the same set up I had with my old TV which worked perfectly, and it was the aerial installer who connected everything up when I had my new aerial. I think I need to set a channel on the TV to watch the DVD through, but can't find any instructions how to do it on my new LG TV.

With SCART connections, you don't "tune" your TV in to a certain VHF/UHF frequency (like you used to with VCRs that connected via RF aerial cable).

There should be a separate "channel" on your TV, often labelled AV or AV1. You might be able to access the AV channel by using channel up/down, but often it doesn't appear in the tunable channel list and you'll need to press a special "AV" or "input" button.

If I can remember rightly, you'd want the aerial feed going into the tuner (Humax?), then both another RF (aerial) cable AND a SCART cable going from the tuner to the TV.

You then just have the DVD player to connect. If you had a spare SCART socket on the TV you could use that (or get an adaptor to plug two devices in), or if the tuner has a SCART socket, you should be able to use that.

    Hope this helps...

I'm a complete numpty so everything helps! And even I can understand your explanation:)

I've now disconnected the Wii and have plugged in the lead with the 3 coloured plugs from the DVD to the TV, so that now when I select AV2 I get the DVD instead of the Wii and it works:j (I'll just need to get a twin SCART adapter for a permanent solution).

So thank you all for your assistance:T

Don't get a Scart splitter - they seldom work as you want. You need a Scart switcher.
  • As its a new TV with only one scart socket I'd assume you will have HDMI sockets so get an HDMI cable for the Humax?

Agreed, use an HDMI lead-the Hummy comes with one in the box!
That will leave the sole SCART free for the DVD.

  • Mind you if its this Humax...
