Buying a car. Need advice on MOT history
Comments
-
The car is 7 years old and has come to the end of its design life. Sure proper maintenance and car could extend that by another 13 years (or more).
The exhaust wll need replace an the poorly mae coil springs are shot not a huge eal all in all.
But the car is due an MOT soon why is the guy not getting that done? So what else is wrong? Cambelt etc?0 -
My worry would be that the car has been poorly maintained. None of the items are out of the ordinary, but I would want to see some evidence of servicing. Only buy it with a new MoT.Je suis sabot...0

This appears perfectly normal for 90%+ of the cars on the road. The owner probably didn't have a relationship with the garage as, despite admin procedure, a local, friendly independent would have checked the car over, asked for the go ahead to fix and the (buttons) work done with no advisories recorded.
For years people have said they have their cars serviced, but really mean they fix whatever their cars fail on at the MOT. This will only get worse as people cut back on everything just to keep themselves afloat.0 -
The only things its failed on are normal wear and tear items with the exception of a broken spring which many cars suffered last year. The list of advisories from the last MOT sound like the MOT was done at Kwik-Fit - excessively corroded suspension springs....ROFL.0

At the end I found a better car and bought it, yeah :T

Owned by some very old lady, who passed the legal age for driving. Averaging less that 2000 miles a year for the past 10 years confirmed by MOT history and Service History (last one was 2000 miles ago)
The car has been registered at the same address for the past 11 years with 2 different owners - family related judging by the same name, probably mother and daughter.
Managed to knock £90, so I believe it is a good bargain for £600 :T
Now the difficult part: find a cheap insurance :mad:0 -

Over various years
Reason(s) for refusal to issue Certificate
Nearside Stop lamp not working (1.2.1b)
Offside Stop lamp not working (1.2.1b)
Nearside Windscreen wiper does not clear the windscreen effectively (8.2.2)
Offside Windscreen wiper does not clear the windscreen effectively (8.2.2)
Offside Front position lamp(s) not working (1.1.A.3b)
Nearside Stop lamp not working (1.2.1b)
These aren't wear and tear items. If you're someone that views the MOT as a way to check the bulbs for you, you shouldn't be on the road.
The op has definitely done the right thing in moving on from this one.0
