i cannto wait to pay off my debts. working long hours overtime but every hour is worth it to say im debt free. It was May 2014 when i hoped to be debt free but the way im going ive managed to get it down to April 2013 :j hopefully even before that.

Cannot wait to start saving. I want to thank you to this site and to its users for being supportive and for making me realise i couldnt go on the wway i was. Good luck to everyone who wants to get debt free and think of that first drink to celebrate. thats going to taste sweet

browng, April 2013 is amazing, I will get in the queue to celebrate with a drink or two. My journey may be a tad longer, but as long as I get there and I'm still smiling then I am happy !!!

Well Done for getting this far !!

How ya doing Mr Dec ?

Have you managed to put aside some more time to see your friends? I think the MSE lifestyle can turn us, sadly into hermits and isolate us a tad. I think its something we need to be very aware of, so at risk of being bossy make sure you see your friends as well. Dont sit at home with that sad lonely (cheap !!) bottle of wine on your own too often. its not good for you !! I have been guilty and still am sometimes of hiding away, dont fall into that trap !! I dont think you are all that old ( well thats just my guess anyway) so you need to still live a life !!

Now you have been told off, what else is going on ? Hope work is still going well.

Hows the car, did you get it sorted ?

I think its a good idea to cut yourself alittle slack on the debt busting. In the grand scheme of things you are in a place to enable you to possibly clear things a little quicker than some, whilst still having a bit of a life although I think if you still have a goal its good for you to focus on and will stop you falling off the wagon !

    Hope you are well,

    Talk soon

  • Well, I've left it aaaaggggggeeeeeessss to reply again!

Mrs PG - thank you so much (as always) for popping by. I quite like being a voice of reason (i.e. a man's opinion) on your diary every now and then - haha :-)

I've had a bit of a sad lonely weekend (again) so I definitely need to make more time to get out and see my friends. Got quite a few nights out planned over the summer so that's good news for my sanity (if not my coffers).

The hermit lifestyle can definitely get you down :-(

It's my six month MSE anniversary this weekend so feels like a great time to review how I'm getting on.

I'm 43% paid-off (so close to 50%!) and feeling much better off on a day-to-day basis. I don't have to worry as much about a tyre bursting or a big bill coming in, which feels great.

My circumstances have changed a bit though. Looks like I'll be relocating with work at some point over the next 6-9 months. That will mean a whole new mortgage application etc so for now I'm focusing on accumulating cash rather than paying off debts. I may ultimately decide to use the saved up cash to pay off debts, but once I've paid them off I can't get them back, so I'm stashing the cash for now and will see what happens.

My Barclaycard is at 0% APR and I'm not in a position to pay-off the bank loan in full, so I don't feel I'm losing out by saving cash rather than paying debts.

I saved most of my mini-bonus to finish the house off so hoping to take a bit of time off this or next month to get the final jobs done. Get it finished and get it sold :-)

The good thing is that now you only have two debts
So that will look better on your credit file.

Sounds like lots happening Mr Dec . Will the re location mean that you are moving very far, away from friends and family ? Or will they all be within easy visiting distance ?

Sorry your weekend was a bit lonely . I think you need to try and plan to do a bit more ,after all your target and signature are looking pretty good, maybe cut yourself some slack a little, but I can totally agree that it can become a little addictive !

You know you are always welcome over on my diary and its lovely to have a voice of reason of the male variety over there, although I'm sure some of the topics of the late from my lovely ladies may not have been quite your thing !! You do all make me laugh though , you are a good bunch ! The more the merrier and the sillier in my opinion, they really do keep me smiling even when things are totally rubbish !

As beanielou says ( who pops up all over the place) asyourm voice of reason, your credit file should be looking pretty good (fingers crossed) if you need to apply for another mortgage .

You are doing great ! Will you disappear completely when the last 50 odd % paid off or do you think you will start on the mortgage challenge next ?!

Been told I Cant go to the super expensive gym we ended up signing up for at the moment :(, although if the weather stays this lovely, I may well nip down with the girls in the hols, even if its just for swimming. Not sure I could manage the gym and cross trainer at the moment. I know you appear to go often. Do you not find it bit boring ?!! :D

I find the gym the most boring thing in the world.
I only use bike & leg press to try to build up my muscle tone.
As it has just gone up I am almost releived to be able to cancel it :rotfl:

  • Morning all,

Finally found my way back on to the forums after becoming totally Olympics-obsessed over the last few weeks.

Sorry to hear Mrs PG and Beanielou can't gym/won't gym :-) I LOVE going! It's probably one of my favourite things to do, especially with my new-found Olympic inspiration haha.

Had a bit of an expensive month so far :-( I put off buying so many for things as long as possible to save a bit of cash and a lot of them have come to bite me on the @ss this month. Oh well. Still well in budget and on target etc. Treated myself to some new stuff for my bikes as well given the nice sunny weather we have (finally) been having over here. Car in for service next week though :-S

In (very late) answer to your Q's Mrs PG - a relocation would probably move me further away from family but closer to friends. I would love to get back to the bright lights though so I'm hoping it happens sooner rather than later.

I'm taking a week off soon to buy some house things from the pot of money I set aside from last payday. Going to stick to basics (Ikea etc) and see if I can save some to either treat myself or pay off the Barclaycard.

I get real mixed emotions when looking at my outstanding debts. Part of me thinks "wow, you're doing so well!" but another part thinks "wow, you still owe £16,000!". Gives me butterflies in my stomach thinking about it.

Still sticking with my minimum payments at the moment and focusing on building savings up in case I need any big sums of cash during a relocation. I'm really happy with that as a strategy, but it means I'm not getting those big debt reductions on a monthly basis :-(

  • Hey everyone. Quick update after a nice quiet (and a bit cold) weekend.

It's probably a bit wrong of me to say, but I've actually enjoyed the slight bite in the air this weekend. I know we haven't had much of a summer, but there's something about the start of autumn/winter that I really like. Think it probably stems back to new term time at school, uni etc, new beginnings et al.

Anyway, things are all going well. Ended up spending £300 getting the car serviced and through its MOT (£50 over budget) but other than a new set of wiper blades that should be it for a good six months or so.

Been working some numbers this evening and even on a worst-case basis I can still hit debt free by the end of 2013 (just!). That has cheered me up a bit.

Right, off to catch up on all the other diaries...

  • Sorry I have been a bit AWOL !

I quite liked the chill in the air as well, well actually i liked it in the early morning, but not in the evenings, especially when my heating wouldnt work ! I am happy today though as the sun is shining brightly here ! :D

Good news on the car spends, they werent too horrendous were they ?

Debt free still by 2013, is wonderful, I can but dream, but will happily follow your progress and celebrate when the big day comes ! :D

Hope all is going well with work and your Olympic enthusiasm at the gym is still intact ! I did call our gym by the way, thankyou for suggesting that. They wont refund but will canx the next few months on production of a letter from the surgeon ( not that easy to get on the NHS though !) but its better than nothing. I will call again today and see if they will acccept my discharge notice from the hospital just to get the ball rolling as I should have paid this months membership on Friday but I cancelled the Direct Debit !!:o

Anyway enough of my rambles. Hope you havent been living the Hermit Lifestyle too much Mr Dec, make sure you do as you are told, and still catch up with your friends sometimes . :D

    Byee for now x
