Seriously hun, don't take what the police said to you on the phone seriously. Get the tax first. I had a neighbour for a plod once who told me to leave a car parked on the side of the road didn't need insurance - only when driving it. Same bloke also used to arrange for his ANPR chums to sit at the top of the road waiting every time I spoke to him and asked him a 'vague' question.

Never trust the advice of the police with regards to motoring if they tell you "you'll be ok". It's rubbish and most of them are trying to find something for their chums to do by inventing potential 'crime'.
