This is from DirectGov, it doesn't make any reference to the additional restriction Gloomendoom mentions but the website maybe just has a simplified version.

Driving an untaxed vehicle to an MOT test
You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station as long as you have adequate insurance cover in place for the use of that vehicle.0 -
What about when the MOT is done, are n't you then guilty of driving an untaxed vehicle anyway. Specally if yu do the shopping on the way home.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

This is also for vehicles being driven to and from a pre-arranged test at a Vehicle Inspection Check (VIC) test station, an approved weight testing station and reduced pollution test.
going shopping isnt going to/from the MOT test
so you would be guilty of driving an untaxed and possibly un MOT'd vehicle0 -

You have to take a direct route to and from the centre. Going shopping, dropping the kids at school or any other diversion is a no-no.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
