Backdated Housing Benefit?

Hi All
Can anyone tell me if they have managed to claim HB and then had this backdated, the CAB website states that the reason for not claiming must not be that you simply "did not know".
I am wondering what a good and acceptable reason is.
Any help would be great! Thanks.

Presumably it wont be backdated for you, because, you 'did not know'
Any other reason you gave would be, wouldn't it.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Sorry you have lost me, I am looking for what is acceptable so that I can see if this fits with what has happened, because if it was supposed to have been paid it means I am due about £1800 and that would be vey nice!0

Well first of all, what is the reason that you did not claim it when you should.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Dream on, unless you put in a claim and they wrongly informed you in writing that you weren't entitled then you have no chance. Basically they back date when hell freezes over. HB is payable from the Monday after you put the claim in.0 -
Didn't know that we could claim and so didn't, but have no read on JCP and CAB that it can be done.
Thanks for the help.0 -
So if the reason that you didnt know is the correct reason then yu arent eligible.
Like I said, anything else you would be trying to get it by lying and asking us to help you. Bit cheeky really, we as tax payers would be paying it.
You need to move on, youve managed to pay your rent obviously so I'd just get over it to be honestmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

A friend of mine was able to get it back dated but he had a very good reason he could prove....he was in hospital fighting for his life so I guess there are cases but clearly not knowing is not one..
What is it they say about the law ? Something like not knowing is no defence ?There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

Ok then, it's not for me but it is something that I need to understand. It would have been helpful, but if not no worries, always worth a try :-)
For the record I am also a tax payer, not that I want to be!. :-/0 -
on a benefits forum it shouldnt matter one iota if people are tax payers or not!!!
for the record except in eeptional circumstances HB is only back dated to the monday following the date of claiming0 -

Hell doesn't need to freeze over for HB to be backdated. Backdates happen all the time where the claimant shows good cause for not claiming earlier.
As it happens it doesn't sound like the OP does have good cause, as he simply didn't know, which on its own is not enough, but that is a separate matter and shouldn't deter others from claiming backdating, as it is pretty common.0
