Necklace lost in washing machine!

Somehow one of my wifes necklaces got into the washing pile and into the washing machine, the program wouldn't cancel when we noticed it was in there and now it's lost. I'm pretty sure it has found it's way between the door seal and the drum as last time I saw it, it was on the rubber seal and I think the clasp would have been too big for it to fit through the holes in the drum.
The necklace was an inexpensive silver chain and so not too bothered about recovering it, apart from any damage it may cause while it's in there. Is it likely that this is going to cause trouble (getting caught up in the pump or something?) or is there some mechanism in there to deal with this sort of thing? Is there an easy way to get to where it might be, or is it a job for a washing machine repair man?
The machine is a Hotpoint WT960 if that helps.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks,
Paul.

HI,
don't think the necklace will get anywhere near the pump, when you think of buttons and coins etc rumbling round in the drum.
Are you sure that the necklace hasn't attatched itself to some of the washing it was in with.
If not you could always put a towel or something in and put machine on rinse and slow spin to see if necklace shows up.
Good luck.0 -
Unfortunately I'm very sure the necklace wasn't with the washing when it came out, there wasn't very much and I checked it thoroughly.
I'm not sure I understand your suggestion about the towel, rinse and slow spin - surely if the necklace is now somewhere underneath the drum it wont just 'show up' or am I misunderstanding?
Thanks for your response.0 -
Have you got a filter on the front of the machine, Bloke? Sometimes there is a little door/flap there, that when opened reveals all sorts of little bits n bobs that have gone through a wash, e.g buttons, hairgrips etc, so you never know what you may find!
Have a dish/bowl ready when you open the flap though as there is usually about a cupful of water in there - and only open it whilst washer is off. It may pull, or need unscrewing but most washers have one.
Good Luck!0 -
try the filter. there should be a hatch on the front of the machine to enable this to be removed. usually bottom right as you look at the machine.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..

Also, have you tried pulling the washer out to see if it has somehow fallen out the bottom of the machine now?
Just beat you to your post Syman!0 -
Cheers for the replies guys, there's no filter on the front of the machine so I'm guessing it must be hidden away inside somewhere. The machine is this one incase it helps...

I think you would have heard the noise if it had got as far as the pump. It is most likely in the filter trap as posted above.
Next time a programme won’t cancel, try the off switch or pull out the mains plug if that is accessible.
I’ve yet to meet a washing machine that can carry on without power.
Apart from Mrs A of course, and even she needs to be plugged into the power occasionally.0 -
HeHe It just occurred to me that we have the 965!!
The panel at the bottom pulls off. Grip it on either side and pull forwards. There should the the filter on the right hand side.
Check the image above, I've marked where to pull0 -
Avoriaz - Tried the power, but when it came back on it remembered where it was up to in the cycle, and couldn't open the door because of the lock. Maybe I didn't have it off long enough and there was a decent capacitor in there?
Aubs -Thanks very much - I'll try this when I get home, I just looked around for an obvious filter flap, didn't think of trying to pull the trim off the bottom, and couldn't bear to start unpugging it all last night to take the back off! Fingers crossed it's stuck in the filter!
