Hi,
A friend of mine got forced into joining esporta as his kids swimming instructor moved her swimming classes to Esporta. To keep the swimming lessons going everyone had to join at £56 a month.
To get in anywhere else for swimming lessons there was a 1 year waiting list, so he joined to keep the kids going for the swimming.
After 4 months he found somewhere else to go and tried cancelling his gym membership. He cancelled the direct debit. sent 3 letters explaining why he has cancelled. They said they had not received any letters from him even though they were sent by recorded delivery. Yesterday he received a charge for £15 for cancelling the direct debit!! He phoned up Esporta in Guildford and expalined why he had cancelled but got no where. He was told that he had to give 3 months notice and was tied into a 12 month contract.
Is there anyway of getting out of this?
Thanks
Dale

Don't hold out much hope. I had my subscription run for 7 months, before having major surgery to remove a lump in my stomach, They made me pay £15.oo a month to freeze my subscription. Only to run it from where I had left off. And I had to get a doctors letter saying that I could not excersize. But as soon as I was able, they ran the rest of my years contract out before they would let me cancel. Six months after my op!:kisses3: Everyday above ground is a bonus!!:D0

This may sound stupid but did you sign a contract to this effect? Were you informed by the person that sold you the membership that you were tied in for twelve months? I managed to sell my membership half way through the year (not esporta) perhaps you could spread the word around to see if anyone is interested in buying you out and put this to the club0

3 months is a long notice, thats a long time, i didnt even know that until i read this. May have to hand in my notice when my contract hits 9 months0

Its a standard thing with Esporta (12 month contract) and now you've signed the dotted line you may well b stuck. When me and my OH joined Esporta we were also told that it was a 12 month lock in, but we bartered with them to get a 6 month contract as we are moving away in 6 months time. This is very rare but it just shows you that they can cancel memberships before the 12 months is up - keep at the boss!!0

Is there a get out clause if you haven't use the gym in a set period of time? I swear there was ... I am thinking about activating it! lol.0
