I was wondering whether the space that would have come with blueyonder/virgin can be used to host her site without any reference to blueyonder etc(e.g mysite.com....and not mysite@ blueyonder.co.uk??(edited....did nt realise it was a real address link)
You can use your free webspace from blueyonder without any reference to its real name in the address. When you look for domain name registation look for web forwarding, which baically redirects request from your domain name to the free blueyonder hosting without any reference to where it is hosted.
Some domain name registration charge for web forwarding, but others offer it for free, its worth shopping around.
Web forwarding is really easy to setup. Just a matter of registering the domain name, once your registation is complete, login to the providers website, and in the forwarding address type: http://yourwebspace.blueyonder.etc. There should be a ''Cloaked;; option, and then the users never see the blueyonder address.
P.S. Your true domain name chan take upto 48hrs to filter through to the internet DNS server, howeber in most cases the address is readey to use in about 4hrs.0 -
I use site sled at the moment which gives you 250mb space and 1gig/day bandwidth for free (they also do a pay service). so unless shes going to be putting loads of songs or movie clips on there space and bandwidth will not be a problem. They also allow you to change the domain name.

Personally i wouldnt pay for a ftp program as i find filezilla a great free program (never had any problems with it.
I learnt html/javascript by looking an google for free html tutorials and using notepad so it may be worth going through that route to learn exactly how html works before paying for a program that does it for you
although its a work in progress this is what ive managed to do

(bear in mind if you do click pics they will take a while to load) and as i said it was all done in notepadSmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -
I have been using 123-reg for domain names and suprahost.net for the webserver. She should probably pay £10-£15 a year for both. Although I think 123-net look after your domain for free now.

I would recommend for cost and reliability and good service:-
Domain name

Web Hosting
https://www.dataflame.co.uk
Good luck!0 -
there was a post on here somewhere saying avoid 123-reg at all costs because of downtime, adverts etc. My friend uses dataflame and has had 100% good resultsLike what I said? click thanks!:rotfl: :rotfl:

i also use dataflame for both domain, and hosting.
Also, if she likes graphics then maybe get her into photoshop. You can download free trials of it and many tutorials are avaiable. ( i love PS so much i made my own site about it lol).0 -
