    Thats what the OP is about, But creating your own on board hydrogen from a $200 kit and a bucket of water.

    Same thing, Except your $200 kit will probably take years to produce enough to drive to the local shops and back and
    cost 10 times more in other fuel bills than buying a gallon or 2 of petrol.

  • Running a car on water is nothing new. But my friend has a better idea. He has invented an electric car that will do 80mph and never needs recharging. He's now trying to solve the last problem - how to get a piece of wire long enough to follow the car next time he does a 200 mile journey. Plus he tells me pedestrians have a habit of tripping over the wire which could be a bit of a problem if they don't keep their eyes peeled.

    I also believe that the production of hydrogen could be adversely affected in your case because of your tinfoil helmet.;)

  • To be totally serious , they have been trying to get fuel cells to the market for over 40 years now and the system has not achieved the technical levels which make it viable.     On a more serious note, I think there are two things here.

    1) cars can quite easily run of Hydrogen, as with any other explosive gas. There is evidence to say it is better, cleaner and cheaper (once set up) than conventional fuels. It can also be produced by readily available materials ( all be in in REALLY POOR efficiencies) using free energy (from the sun).

    2) water vapor is not hydrogen.

    I think we all need to step back and learn to science a little more.


    On a side note, I have never seen ANY evidence of Tesla doing anything towards a Water vapor car, i think you are confused with his electric car.

    To be totally serious , they have been trying to get fuel cells to the market for over 40 years now and the system has not achieved the technical levels which make it viable.

    That's rubbish, both Honda and (I believe) Toyota, have developed the technology to such a level that it is ready to go.

    If governments took a fraction of the 'green' taxes and gave it to them to help out with the last part of R&D. And put in a scheme to help them with mass production, then the cost would come down dramatically so that the cars would be affordable.

    The thing is, governments don't want fuel cell cars that exhaust water only. Because it doesn't matter how clean and environmentally friendly they are, it would be difficult to tax them and they would have to find another tax revenue stream. Follow the money.

    According to the motoring press it's been waiting to go for over 30 years. Our company worked on the construction of the desigh loboratories for Fuel Cells at Basingstoke about 40 years ago . I was a nipper then and now I am a geriatric, I have no expectation of seeing it's fruition in my lifetime. Daimler put a test fleet of fuel cell buses on the road for trials in 2003 , 9 years on the technology has not impacted on the market. With the pressure to find alternatives to diesel and petrol this says to me there are technology problems they have difficulty surmounting.
