Hello there, can I join too please?

I have only just got my head around the 2nd purse idea since Mothership first mentioned it on the GC thread last year. I started last week with £25 and have enough beans from Lidl to float a battleship:eek: and now have just over £2 left.

It is a good job I read though the thread as I hadn't realised I needed to add £10/month to the 2nd purse. I have added this to my budget spreadsheet so I don't forget.

There are so many times I have missed out on great offers because I have not had spare cash available and the 2nd purse system will hopefully help me achieve this.

I will use the savings made (3rd purse) to replace the Denby Jet/stripe teapot we got as a wedding present 5 years ago but smashed just before Christmas and some matching mugs (only 2 left:eek:), jug and sugar bowl. All we have smashed, chipped in the last 10 years due to a lack of suitable storage space. I am hoping to have some proper shelves fitted in my 2 under the stairs cupboards so stocks and kitchenware can be stored more safely/efficiently.

£112 should cover 6 new mugs, teapot, sugar bowl and milk jug. I would like to add to the dinner service as I increase my savings.

Is it OK to buy items for my store from the 2nd purse that are not on special offer/BOGOF? I am thinking that I would like to build up a store of loo roll but the spr1ngforce one I like is only £2 from Mr T and doesn't go on offer as it is their discount brand. I thought I may buy it from the 2nd purse at £2 but add £2.50 or £3.00 to the 2nd purse when we open a pack. Does this seem like it would work?

Omg and i have just realised the surf is £8.49 at full price :eek: how will i ever work that into my food budget of £250 pmsl...I never pay more than £4 ....i think i may need to come on here for encouragement that it will all be worth 'letting go of the money' :rotfl:

I did think that, didn't think it would ever work for me but liked the idea of a stash of extra money, 3 weeks in and I am sticking to my grocery budget and buying from myself at full price, the key for me was a meal plan :j:j:j
Correct, although i think the idea is, the money is dispersed differently so eventually you end up being able to halve your grocery budget because of bargains. and the money you save you do pay yourself back but you can then spend this on luxury items you otherwise could not afford to budget for or leaves more money for bargains. Better in your bank than the supermarkets :)

At least this is the way i think it works :rotfl: please correct me if wrong!

    I totally agree :D

I think thats a great idea, we have our own sewage system and it hates the expensive embossed brands, so I buy the cheap value ones from Mr M's, they are never on offer so I could do the same :D

  • Hi I've started with a small amount in my second purse (£5.00) but today have bought special offers - Colgate Plax Alcohol Free mouthwash from Sainsburys - half price reduced to £1.37 and Garnier Mineral Roll On Deodorant 1/3rd off reduced to £1.32. These are products we use anyway and normally have to buy at full price as there never seems to be an offer on when we actually need them. But having the second purse money has given me the budget to buy them when the offers are on so it's all good :).

I know what you mean about paying the full price for things though as I had to buy Ariel washing liquid at full price and it was £7.00. Hopefully second purse means next time an offer is on I can stock up then I can pocket the extra not the SM.

    HI everyone.

Would love to join. I post on the GC challenge and im just under budget this month (determined not to go over). Ive just started my 2nd purse this week, hope it wont be long til i need my 3rd. Ive had to read and re read to make sure ive got the right idea. ive stuck £20 in this week (to count for Jan) and now im planning on budgeting £5.00 a week. Can I just ask a quick question. Ive bought some blue dragon sweet and sour sachets, normally 65p each and I bought them for 3 for a pound, so im thinking when I use one i should be paying myself from my 1st purse to my 2nd purse the full price it should have cost me i.e 65p thus building up my savings. I hope ive got it right

Oh and from my third purse i really really really want the heated clothes airer from lakeland (not very exciting but much needed and ill never have the money spare) so id like to set myself a challenge on £80 so at the min its £0.00/£80.00.

I'm going to aim for a Le Creuset casserole dish which will be for him (he does all the cooking :D) as he's wanted one for quite a while. I think £150 should be plenty.
You can get a whole set of le creuset for that price :T i was going to buy a set but my mum put me off telling me she gave hers away years ago cos they were too heavy ! Oh and welcome :rotfl:

I LOVE my Le Creuset casserole. It's a big blue oval one. My god it's heavy though. There was a posh kitchen supplies shop in town I used to walk past on my home years ago and when it closed down very quickly everything was ridiculously cheap. If I could have carried more I would have bought loads but walking halfway through town with one big cast iron pot is more than enough! :(

If you shop around you might come across a good deal. I've seen them in H0mesense as well but didn't take note of the price.

I need to do the maths on a few bulk buys I got just before Xmas to getthe second purse off zero.

    Helloooooooo

Went to M*rrisons today and they had bisto best gravy (the small ones) 2 for £2.50 (should be £1.44 each) so bought 4 which spent my £5 float, already used 1 so paid my 2nd purse back £1.25 and gave my 3rd purse the 19p saving (ok 20p as I didnt have the right change :rotfl:) im off any running :D

    £0.20 / £130 :rotfl: :rotfl:

I did post on the other thread that im only going to use items I would buy whether on offer or not in this challenge as that means I actually would be saving the money IYSWIM :o so baked beans, loo roll, curry sauce, stuffing, teabags all in the yes savings, things like bottles of coke, tubes of pringles etc which id only buy if they were reduced wont be counted, is that ok?

Also (cos I love to be difficult :D) well I won 6 family sized bottles of persil detergent which I know are about £11 a bottle  but i'd never buy them unless they were half price (id buy something else if they weren't, that was on offer instead :rotfl:) so when I 'buy' one from myself, will it be ok to buy it at my reduced price, so im still adding money to my 3rd purse, but its what I would spend rather than what the rip off supermarkets would charge me? :rotfl: :rotfl:

Ooooo forgot to say, ive told mum all about your challenge Kerri and she thinks its brilliant, and has decided we are joining costco and going once a month to bulk buy AND we are going to 'bulk buy' shop together and share the offers on things that we both use but dont have long dates or we dont use alot of so no real point bulk buying it, so things like bread when they do 2 for £2, or rice on 3 for 2 as I dont use very much and though mum loves t there are only 2 of them and dad isnt that fussed so she wouldnt get through 3 packs that quick :o

Hearing all your chat on savings reminds me of the time morrisons put robinsons squash on 50p . . . I bought 20 bottles :rotfl:
