Dentist Dilemma

I am so worried about my daughter. She lives 70 miles away and is in terrible pain with an inection in her jaw and upper wisdom tooth. I can't get to her and feel so helpless.
This started 2 weeks ago, she had antibiotics for a week and was told she needs the tooth extracting BUT it will need to be done in hospital, estimated waiting time 12 weeks . Within 3 days of antibiotic course being completed the infection came back, a new course of double strength (same antibiotic as last time) are making no difference.
THE ABOVE INFORMATION IS JUST FOR BACKGROUND I AM NOT ASKING FOR MEDICAL ADVICE (sorry for shouting but do not want to get flamed)
It is now Friday, weekend looms and her dentist is on a day off. The receptionist refuses to make her an appointment with another dentist at the practice and I just wondered if anyone could tell me if they can do this? A whole weekend of pain that cannot be controlled with over the counter pain relief is daunting to say the least - surely dentists have an obligation to help a patient in distress (this is an NHS dentist).
My daughter has struggled to pay her dental bills so far and has no money to go to a different dentist - if in fact she could find another NHS dentist in her area.
Any advice (NOT medical) welcomed

What about NHS Direct and an emergency dentist?
How old is she?0 -
Can your daughter not go to an emergency dentist? They have them at the hospital I think?
Not sure why she has been refused an appointment with another dentist, if all else fails can she not go down there and park herself in the surgery until she gets seen?0 -

I would recommend giving the GP a call, explaining the situation and that she can't see the dentist until Monday at the earliest, but is in absolute agony and would be grateful for some stronger pain relief to be prescribed.
Depending on the GP, they may agree, or they may direct her back to the dentist, but it's worth a try.
Otherwise, NHS Direct or an Emergency dentist is another option. In fact, an emergency dentist is probably her best bet.
I feel for her, I experienced something similar last year with one of my teeth, and even dosed up on strongest amount of paracetemol and ibuprofen wasn't enough. All it did was take the edge off a bit. A constant bl00dy throbbing pain, and it makes your neck and your head ache too.
I hope she feels better soon.

How awful! Ive had infected wisdom teeth and the pain is horrid.
Have you tried posting this on the health board? There are 3 or 4 dentists who read that board regularly and seem to pop in through the day between patients and are very good and quick at offering advice. They do sometimes come over to this side, but not as often I think.0 -

If she is in 'severe pain not helped by painkillers' she should go to A and E

I know with my daughter we phoned an out of hours number, had to drive about 15 miles to an emergency dentist and he saw her immediately.0 -

It's a Friday, get her booked into an emergency dentist over the weekend. They exist for a reason.0
