Dentist Dilemma

The advice about the emergency dentist is good. The other option would be a specialist dental hosptial, if there's one near where your daugther lives, mostly they are attached to the big teaching hosptials or near universities that teach dentistry. Normally they have a drop in emergency service, but you would need to check the times etc. The one where I live opens the doors at 08.30 in the morning for people without appointments, but the queue starts forming well before that.0

Eeek! The poor thing. Definitely get her to see the GP. If she is in that much pain they should try and squeeze her in asap. When I had an abscess and dry socket (shudder!) my GP was brilliant and gave me strong painkillers and also wrote me out a painkiller plan to ensure I was getting the maximum benefit out of what I was taking.0

I hope she gets it sorted asap. There is something about dental pain, not much else like it!Current debt: M&S £0(£2K) , Tesco £0 (£1.5K), Car loan 6K (paid off!) Barclaycard £1.5K (interest free for 18 months)0

Yes, I think it's on a par with ear pain. It's just there, takes over your whole body and mind. I remember as a kid having a double ear infection that turned out to be a strep. I told my mum I wanted to die, I asked her to kill me. My mum brought me to A&E in the middle of the night, the doc took one look and immediately put me on IV antibiotics and painkillers, was in hospital for more than a week. Worst pain I've ever felt.
I hope she gets it sorted ASAP OP!0 -
It is possible to buy stronger painkillers than ibuprofen and paracetamol OTC if you go to the chemist and speak to the pharmacist. That's just for future reference, seeing a dentist is always Plan A!Signature removed for peace of mind0

clove oil burns after a while. over the counter pain relief just wont cope with a serious abcess. if you get to the point that you are seriously wanting to pull it out yourself go to a&e they will noy laugh at you. its important to get the pain under control. treat the infection and remove the problem. i always opt for pulling now. root work just allowed the abcess to come back. one gp refused to help as it was a dental problem. so try to get seen by a dentist as soon as you think you have a problem it saves a lot of pain
have you not seen the skulls of folks on history programs. they often have abcesses that have eaten therough the bone before erupting. now that must have been fun with no pain relief.0
