    Batteries would be a pain.

One with in built rechargable battery, they last about 6 hours
  • No? !!!!!! tried to take my neighbours 70's 3L classic rover from his drive for SCRAP METAL. He came home and found them in the act trying to pull it off his drive.

Just because it won't go abroad doesn't mean it isn't worth scrap money and I suspect thats why it was probably targetted.

More likely to be joy riders with a Metro.

They also pinched the sat nav which was in the glove compartment

Allways leave the glovebox open from now on. I still use my autolock on my pre immobiliser car. Look on freecycle or lobay for one.
  • get a disklock that covers the steering wheel . at least if they see they cant nick it they wont damage the steering column and ignition barrel. the handbrake ones are rubbish and some of the steering wheel locks can help the thief.

Sorry but if they really want it theres very little you can do.
Even though its a `banger` its the type of car thats easily nicked it will attract unwanted attention so anything that visually makes it look more hassle to pinch will make the majority move on to the next easier to nick motor. :)

Seriously though.... An alarm is pointless, people just ignore them.

Your best bet I reckon is to leave the doors unlocked (so they don't cause damage getting in), leave nothing in the car and fit a hidden cut off switch.

Thieves tend to know the car they're stealing, ANYTHING that's not standard fit will confuse them to hell and back.

Years ago we'd whip out the rotor arm.
  • My dad had an old Volvo years ago that had an immobiliser switch in the glove box. Nothing more than a switch that cut power to/from the starter fuse, but it could only be done with a key. Worked a treat.

In reality a simply £1.50 flashing red LED light on your dashboard and an "alarm/immobiliser" sticker in each window would probably do as much good as actually having an alarm. The Maplin alarm doesn't look too bad, but it wont stop your car being started. You can get the LED and stickers from Maplins too.
