Catbells, this may be a stupid point and apologies if it is, but you do still have a dish in place to connect the sky box to dont you?The Daily Mail

Thanks. So I can get Freesat through the Sky dish?
You can get Freesat or Freesat From Sky through the same dish, same alignment.
But to get Freesat you will need a Freesat box, which you don't have. So use !!!!!!, unless you require PVR facilities.
If you have a Sky+ box, the PVR functions are disabled unless you subscribe or pay £10 pm.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Also to note is that for the cost of that Sky Freesat card of £25, you can get hold of a Goodmans Freesat SD set top box (BBC/ITV Freesat, not Sky's 'copied' Freesat service) with an uncluttered programme guide which is full of encrypted Sky channels you can't necessarily view.0

yes Catbells just make sure your sky box is still connected to the dish then connect it to your TV and you'll get freesat from sky as your box is old it's probably a SD Box so you wont get the HD Channels
sky free channels info here http://mgpc.b1.jcink.com/index.php?showtopic=28
the sky card IF you want to buy one will only give you a few extra channels these days PickTV, SonyTV, Viva, MotorsTV. LfcTV if you can manage without them you dont need a card.
if your old sky card is a white one leave it in the box a few days it will get a wake up signal and get the FTV Channels for you
if your sky card is a blue card with the yellow house leave that in the box it wont give you any extra channels but will give you local region listing for BBC/ITV Etc0 -

Been away last weekend so haven't tried yet. The switchover is April so still got time. Yes Marcowil I still have the sky dish and I still have the sky box. What I'm hoping is that I can connect the two. There is a sky point next to the TV so I hope the connections are still ok. This is a newish house to me so I haven't tried before.0 -

REALLY helpful. Let you know if it works.
Do you happen to know how much the sky card costs in case the old one doesn't work. Also what do I ask for if I want to buy one?0 -

The card should work, but just in case, this is lifted from their site -All you need to gain access to the free channels available on the digital satellite platform is a Freesat from Sky viewing card, which costs just £25. If you’d like to access the interactive services available, you’ll also need a working phone line. To purchase a viewing card please phone Sky on 08448 244 400Dave. :wave:0 -
You do not need to buy a £25 card to receive quite a lot of channels; why not just plug in the Sky box and see what you get?0
