Orange & BT Openzone

I am going on a weeks holiday to Tenerife shortly and I contacted my mobile phone provider (Orange) to organise one of their packages that allows internet access abroad at a discounted rate.

I was put through to a nice chap, probably somewhere on the Indian sub-continent, who asked me the name of the hotel that I am going to and then told me that I could get free internet access on my mobile if I used the hotel's wi-fi. Apparently this is because the hotel's wi-fi provider is a partner of BT Openzone with whom Orange now have some sort of tie-in.

To be honest, it all sounds too good to be true and I'm a bit reluctant to try it out when I get there in case I rack up a big bill by mistake.

I can't believe he would go to the trouble of telling me this if it wasn't correct, but can anyone confirm if indeed it is true?

  • I had a quick google and there do seem to be a few web sites suggesting this is the case - I'd suggest having a quick google yourself to see how to set it up before you go and maybe try it out where you live before you go abroad to make sure it works?

Some Orange talk plans give BT Openzone access. however this is different from BT Fon which is what the operator may have looked up.

i have tried this myself abroad, my orange log in wouldn't work but my BT Broadband one did.
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!
