Out of Tesco deal, but need advice please
Hi,
In February 2010 I bought the iPhone 3GS PAYG from Tesco with free unlimited data and trebbe credit when topping up. Don't ask why as I don't know, but I've been getting the free data service until now:) I was notified last Dec that my deal was coming to an end on 8th Jan and I would be charged £7.50 for the data service per month there after.
I sent a text stopping the data, as its nice to have but isn't a priority. However, since then my credit went down by £7.50 and I've discovered its because some of my apps accesses the internet for info, which then triggers the system to charge me the month's fee.
I've 2 questions:-
Is there a way to turn off the data feature?
Or
If I took on the monthly charge, every time I top up my phone with £10, would this trebble my credit AND charge the £7.50. Or would they consider the fee as a seperate transaction and costing me £17.50
Today I've no credit and your advice will effect what I do.
Cheers

Are you sure that they accept such instructions via texts?I sent a text stopping the data,
Yes, I think you can permanently switch the mobile data off in your phone settings. Is there a way to turn off the data feature?
Alternatively you can ask Tesco to disable it on their side.
I don't understand what you mean, but the free credit can be used only on texts and calls (with some restrictions).f I took on the monthly charge, every time I top up my phone with £10, would this trebble my credit AND charge the £7.50. I think you have to switch to some more data-friendly sim-only deal like giffgaff, chitter-chatter, talkmobile.Today I've no credit and your advice will effect what I do.
ATM you can get £80.80 TCB cashback for t-mobile 12x£10.21 contract making it just £3.50 p.m.0 -
Yes, as they sent me a text telling me how to stop the data service and gave me a number to text STOPDATA toAre you sure that they accept such instructions via texts? .
Everytime I top up my phone, Tesco trebbles the amount. So if I put £10 on the phone, Tesco tops it up giving my £30 worth of credit on my phone. So I'm wondering if Tesco will still trebble my credit and take off the £7.50 monthly fee at the same time or do I need to top up my phone by £10 toi get my trebble credit plus a further £7.50 for the data fee?
My phone is locked, so changing provider will meen getting the phone unlock. My last phone I had broke due to unlocking it, so not keen to do it with an iPhone this time:(0 -
IMHO this is just a marketing ploy: Tesco mobile tariff rip off ?Everytime I top up my phone, Tesco trebbles the amount. So if I put £10 on the phone, Tesco tops it up giving my £30 worth of credit on my phone.
I'd expect 7.50 to be taken from the main balance that can be used on anything. Don't know how this works, ask them. I thought you had to use your balance to buy a 'bundle', but they seem to do this automatically. BTW, £7.50 is the price of 1Gb bundle. 500Mb cost £5.00.So I'm wondering if Tesco will still trebble my credit and take off the £7.50 monthly fee at the same time or do I need to top up my phone by £10 toi get my trebble credit plus a further £7.50 for the data fee?
Tesco will do this for no more than £20: http://giffgaff.com/unlock/Apple-iPhone-3GS-phoneMy phone is locked, so changing provider will meen getting the phone unlock. My last phone I had broke due to unlocking it, so not keen to do it with an iPhone this time:(0 -
