A couple years ago I got a packet of 'baby sweetcorn' when they evenually grew, they were full size sweetcorn!!! Our landlord won't let us change anything in the garden ie to stay as is, lawned. So I can't plant anything all i have is a window sill that doesn't get the sun - any ideas anyone x0

Hiya
I've just had a bit of a garden 'lightbulb' moment! I live during the week in a house in London and today with it being rather sunny I ventured out into the garden.
It suddenly dawned on me that I could try to grow some of my own veg and stuff....but I have no idea of where to start!
In the garden there is:
- area where I could leave pots
- glass sided shed (sort of greenhouse I guess)
The challenge is that from Thur eve - Sun eve I'm not around. Would it be possible to grown something but not water it every day (can you tell I have NO clue to what I'm doing?
)
Any advice on what to grow first and how to find out more info. gratefully received.
Cheers!

Thanks Jayar, I had already spotted that thread and phoned the number but not answering as very busy with phonecalls....or they are possibly not in today because it's a Sunday

That's a shame, I really fancied growing tomatoes

Hi, MP!! Lovely to see you over here - my second home, after Old Style.
Do you have a friendly neighbour who might water while you're away?
Alternatively, you could install a drip feed system - you can put in a timer which you can set a bit like your central heating timer, to water at set times.
Will be back later with more ideas.

Cheers Pen Pen I hoped you might offer some support
I share a house with three other blokes so I might be able to persuade them to do watering, or look at a drip feature.
I've worked it out that the plants would be unwatered from Thur 9am - Sun 10 pm.
I was thinking of your chooks this morning and how green fingered you are when I had the light-bulb moment. I love MSE for inspiration!
Brrrrr, at work at the moment and the air conditioning is making me feel cold.

Start with salads, and work your way up. Lettuces, beetroot, radish etc. Or some runner beans. They're very easy to grow, and you'll learn while you're looking after them. Tomatoes need much more care.0

Thanks Solomon. If people were to pick one veg to be their first attempt at growing, what would they choose? I think I might need to grow in pots as the landlord might not like me digging up the garden!Previous debt: £14K :embarasse Debt free: Sept '03

Easiest thing ive ever grown is salad leaves! They seem to do really well in pots for me. This year im branching out though, and most of my stuff will be grown in pots too. My tomato already seems to be wilting for some reason (its not too hot, its not too cold, its been watered, but its not sitting in a pool and there is some drainage. I hate growing them just as much as I hate eating them! They are only for my other half though!
