    Hi Jill.

I didn't do raised beds. I have a tiny yard and had a flower border which I've empitied of flowers and now extended it's probably about 12ft by 3ft. I just dug in a bit of HM compost and old compost from growing potatoes in pots last year and then divided it up into square feet(ish) using large pebbles to mark the edges. I've kind of divided it into 3 sections so I can 'rotate' the crops. AS it's quite narrow I haven't got any paths but have a bit of paving dividing each 'section' if that makes sense? I'll try and get a picture if you like but my computer is not very good and sometimes I can't load them.

I've done onions/garlic/carrots and parsnips in one plot - leeks and brocoli in another plot - and will do beans and sweetcorn in the last plot. I've also got raspberries along the back fence and a pear tree along the side fence. HTH.

Was just wondering - do you grow the beans actually up the sweetcorn plants or in between them?

The beans grow up and are supported by the corn. This link gives you some information about the system.

I think to be really authentic you have to put a fish under the corn seed when you plant it. It feeds the plant as it decomposes I believe.

Oh thanks, I'll have a look at that. I have some fish blood and bone would that count? :D

So do you have 3 sectiosn that are sort of 3ft by 3ft ? Can you get at te middle of each plot ok ?.
Paving slabs for a pathway - excellent idea, I have a load donated by a neighbour, I wonder are they too wide , hmmm........

Or I suppose I could lay some plank flat as there might be some left from the pallets.

So I've now got some pallets to build some raised beds. No idea how I will do this but I will give it a go!

What do I fill them with ?
Topsoil ? Where do I get it from ?
Or compost but wont that cost a fortune ?
We have a compost bin but its not even going to touch the sides LOL
