I was at our vets last night and they had a January Sale leaflet on the counter I saw microchipping mentioned on there so it might be worth just ringing a few local vets to see if they have similar deals on at the moment?
Are you having him neutered? My vet usually has their special in March for this :D
What breed is he? Most have online forums and I'm sure they'll be pleased to offer advice re the ear infection etc.

Good point, I got my micro-chipping thrown in for free when I had my boy neutered.

£35 is the going rate here too.

My son paid £50 each for his two staffies, but this was a new vaccination which only has to be done every three years, so that's about £17 a year. Kennel cough was included in the price, but that does still have to be renewed each year.

I took my friends husky to the vets not long ago and it was £35 to restart the entire needles (or £33.60) something like that (as we didn't have a record of her vaccs, but previous owner *said* she had been done) but for the sake of a few quid (and the booster is about £10 cheaper) we just got it done from the beginning.
  • Hiya,

Called our vet and they've quoted £57.80, £23 for Kennel Cough, £23 for microchip, £140 for neuter and £120 for the callus on his ear to be removed and analysed.

Just under £400 in total, will have to do it in stages I think!

Have you seen if they do any sort of discount scheme? My local vet do a scheme where you pay x amount a month and that covers any flea and worming treatment, certain checkups for free, then discounts on major treatments like neutering/spaying, dental treatment, etc. - worthwhile for a puppy or something maybe, but wasn't really worth it for a dog that's already been neutered/chipped/etc. I don't think.

Don't suppose you are able to use the PDSA at all are you Starcrossed? Obviously it depends if you recieve housing/council tax benefit, and whilst they charge the same price for Vaccs (and worming/flea treatment too I think) neutering is at a muchly reduced cost, and I'm sure it would just be a "donation" towards the ear callous.

You've rescused that dog from a lifetime of pain, so don't think anyone would begrudge you using it ;) Obviously it depends on your income and whatnot though.

What breed of dog is he if you don't mind me asking? Im curious now!

  • Hiya,

I think we earn too much for the PDSA and there are probably people who need it a little bit more than us :)

He's a French Bulldog and an absolute sweetie. No photos on the computer as of yet but will follow up.

Will have a word with the vet and see if they've got any special offers :)

They've no right to visit a dog now its sold. If you want to stay on good terms for time being you could offer to email them some photos instead.

You can get microchipping cheaper than at vets and some dog wardens do it low cost.
