best sim card to use abroad ? please

Hi all,
was wondering, a couple of years ago I had a uk sim card that I used abroad and it didn't cost me to recieve calls on I think it was orange but not really sure, a month ago when I went to Tenerife I took a freebie payg orange and it charged to recieve calls and so was wondering is there any uk sims payg that don't charge to receive calls abroad.

Hmmm, not too sure on this... you could try Vodafone, and add on their "passport options"

I sometimes use my Vodafone sim from New Zealand, and it costs next to nothing to run abroad. However, sometimes I just buy a sim from the country I'm going to - it never usually costs that much.

Hmmm if I'm right in thinking you can now buy european sims that you just swap with your normal sim and you get very reasonable rates for making calls and sending txt's. I know Aldi were selling them a while back, But I'm sure someone in the know will be able to tell you more than me.

I'm surprised at your remarks that the older SIM had free roaming, as none of the networks had this.

As well as getting a local SIM card, or Vodafone Passport, look into 3 Like Home and O2 My Europe, both ordinary and Extra, or a global roaming SIM.

redux, I have no idea how it worked but when I'd run out of credit it still recieved calls so not costing anything to receive the calls as no credit on phone, but when I'd been recently I took a sim and when the credit run out it stopped recieving the calls? so I took it that it needed credit to recieve calls?

The earlier case should have been chargeable for incoming calls; maybe you inadvertently found some now-closed loophole in their information and billing systems.
