Thanks for your response. This is all a learning curve for me. Its interesting that you can try and keep within your own profession for 3 months. My first sign on is next week but do not get to see the "Adviser" till week after next. I need to get my computer skills updated and as I have paid into the system for 45 years, had my state pension put back 22months if there is any free training I want it.........I suspect however, that I will not qualify.

What I do not like is the distance they put on the search, when I filled in the forms with them other week they put had to drive up to 60 mins each way, which to me is too far. They do not take into account the rush hour traffic, my last job took 40-45ish mins each way in traffic but to them 60 mins is over double that distance because they dont take into account this, and also the wages with the petrol. My last job when I started was only 13k but 2 months in I had to ask for a raise luckily i got it to 14.5k as with rent and bills and petrol i just wasnt making anything spare.

this is normal commute for a lot of us. Mine is typically 55-65 minutes on an average day, but has been 2.5 hours going in to work on a couple of days in the last week or two.

Good luck, hubby has nearly identical dates to you as was also made redundant in Dec, he had a first interview today, they rang him back for a second one next week, and he has an interview with another firm next week also. There is stuff out there still...although he will also have to have a 90 minute commute...good luck finding something..
