O2 upgrade early

I got an iPhone 4 on a 24 month contract from O2 on 11/05/2011
I really don't like this phone and have spotted a Sony Xperia arc s that is cheaper than the iPhone and would prefer that phone O2 say I cannot upgrade til 11/05/2013 which is 16 months away the iPhone is in perfect condition with not a single scratch could I not trade it for the Xperia and keep the same contract O2 have been my favourite network for many years now but I am not happy with the way things work with upgrades
The iPhone is £42 a month the Xperia is £27 but I would happily pay £42 for xperia
Is there any way around this ? ? ?

Sell you iPhone and buy a sim free Xperia.

Then downgrade your contract to the next cheaper one after 11/05/2012. It's madness to pay £42 p.m. for a mobile toy.

As everyone else is saying, sell the phone and buy the one you want. No mobile operator will allow you to trade your phone in against a new one when you've still got over a year left simply because you don't like the phone.
  • You can reduce your contract, but only to the next tariff down. And I think you can only reduce it after a certain amount of time spent on the contract i.e. I was told after a year on O2 I could reduce my tariff to the next cheapest option.
