post redirection help please

my sister moved 3 months ago and paid to have her mail redirected by the post office. she has just found out that the new buyers of her house have used a loan application form (which was junk mail) to try to get a loan out in her name. She only found out because the response from the loan company was redirected to her new address. What should she do ? I said contact the police but should she contact the post office and the loan company, how reliable is the post office redirection service ? has anybody experienced anything like this ? Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I wasn't sure where to post it

  • Contact Experian credit reference agency and request a credit report to see if there are any requests for a credit you do not recognise. You can use their free 1-month trial from https://www.creditexpert.co.uk The police, unfortunately, are not going to be much help. I think the best people to speak are your bank and a credit reference agency. Hope this helps.
  • Your sister should contact the police.

The post office redirection service uses a manual system and is not completely reliable. Also, mail that is not addressed to an individual will not be redirected by this service. To cut back junkmail, contact the mailing preference service https://www.mpsonline.org.uk, however this takes a couple of months to cut in and mail from companies that you have previously had dealings with will not be stopped (as it is not junkmail).

I agree with previous posts. personally I'd contact the police first, Fraud costs everyone money. If you get sent an uninterested PC write to the Local Force HQ and demand a proper investigation. Once the police have had the opportunity to investigate then get your credit history put right.

It doesnt matter how reliable the post office is, mistakes can be made but it doesnt deter from the fact what the new owner has done is illegal and has to be reported to the police. Has your sister actually approached the people and let them know that she knows.

Does she know for definite it was the new owners? They may have just dumped the post and someone else is trying on, unless they put their name on it it could have been anyone - can't see the Police taking much interest, just let the loan Co. know - and to be fair it is the Loan Co's fault for sending out these almost fully completed forms in the first place.

No she hasn't she has only just found out as she's been on holiday and just come home. She's not worried about confronting them as she's livid but didn't know if she should let them know or just get police involved. Thanks for your help

Sorry, but as I said, It is going to be one hell of a job proving what you allege they have done - No doubt they have signed her name not their own, all they will do is deny all knowledge of it (if it even was them to start with), just tell the Loan Co and forget about it, you won't get anywhere unless they have actually used some of their own details like bank details etc.
