I'm a little afraid of flying. We all have things that scare us, and flying gives me butterflies. But I don't want to not be able to fly so taking myself *gulp* to Jersey. I wish I wasn't, but heck some people are scared of what I do a few times a year, so it's the same idea really.

What do you do a few times a year?!

I think we need to feel scared occasionally to remind ourselves were still alive.

Have a look on Youtube, there are a lot of good explanatory videos covering the subject.

I developed a bit of a fear of flying about 18 years ago, this after flying long haul quite often as we lived overseas 20 years ago.

OH & I decided to visit friends in Thailand so I went to see my GP & explained about my fear, he suggested Diazepam or the bar - not both! I opted for the bar pre-flight and managed to sleep for about half of the flight duration.

Fast forward several years when we began taking our dd's abroad, Spain/Portugal. I was still a bit scared but didn't want them to realise so to distract myself, I talked to them about how much they would enjoy flying, read books with them, which kept us both occupied.

Gradually, I got less nervous and have gone from gripping my oh's hand so tight I left marks, to actually quite enjoying it now. I'm taking my first solo flight in April and it's long haul - almost 10 hours and the thing I'm most nervous about is nothing :D

I've heard good things about the Virgin fear of flying course - I think there's a forum somewhere about it.
