wedding ring woes and arthritic joints

  • When we were discussing my mum's funeral arrangements the undertaker asked us if we wanted him to remove her wedding ring. We said no so she was buried with it on. It was very narrow and very worn, so even in these days it would not have fetched very much as scrap but I never thought of it in monetary terms. She was married for 62 years and I never considered removing it. Strange though as I did not ask for her to be dressed in any of her clothes.
I have no idea about cremations.
  • bit off topic but it reminds me........when I worked in a geriatric hospital one of the ladies was dying and had a gold coin stuck to her shoulder blade to be buried with.Someone said it was to pay the ferryman,I thought bless her!
    mortgage free 3/10/12:)
  • I woke up in the night with my finger in agony and turning blue! Managed to get the ring off and DH has bought me a new narrow comfort fit gold band and placed it lovingly where it should be. The original ring was wide and flat and patterned, like DH's. His seems ok still, luckily.
    :hello:
  • I married at 16 and so you can imagine my hands were'nt that huge at the time.
My ring had to be removed after 40 years due to arthritis just over a year ago and it broke my heart,I was devastated. It had rarely been off my hand in all that time.
I still don't feel the ring I have now is my wedding ring even though my husband took me to the place we were married, stood on the steps of the register office (long since closed) and put it on my finger.
My husband keeps my old ring with his old ring in our family memory box (his fingers got a little chubby)and he had to get a replacement too.
We have stuff like our babies tags from when they were born and their school pictures and reports.
I still get very weepy when I look at it,silly I know but it represents so much to me.
  • I had mine resized (larger) last year. It cost £40 and took about one hour at a jewellers in town. Just go into some jewellers and ask if they re-size rings. The day I had mine done, the assistant said I was the third lady that day. :)
