Sony Ericsson Phone Batteries

I have a Sony Ericsson mobile phone which is very good but it only accepts Sony Ericsson batteries at around £20 when there are equivalent batteries for for £2.99 or less. Anyway I do have a Sony Ericsson battery but the charger refuses to charge stating "Only Sony Ericsson Batteries to be used". Has anybody got any answers besides advising not to buy Sony products. Apparently they haven't learned anything from their Beta Video Tape Format which despite being superior failed miserably to the VHS format because they wouldn't allow anybody to manufacture them except themselves no doubt at an inflated price.

My Sony DSLR happoily accepts generic batteries, so I guess it depends why it's rejecting them, if they have some inbuilt chip then it will depend how popular it is as to if it's worth the chinese generic maker making batteries for them, or the battery is faulty somehow.

What model is it?

In terms of the Beta analogy your close, Sony would allow anyone to make them but there was a royalty to be paid, JVC who invented VHS also charged a royalty to make VHS machiens it was just a lot lower per unit that Sony wanted per unit.
