Has any existing NW flex acct holder grabbed this offer? Looks good:
0% on purchases for 18 months.
0% on BTs for 17 months subject to a 2.95% transfer fee
unlimited commission-free purchases abroad and
unlimited 0.5% cashback on sterling purchases
Pity I had already applied for the NW rewards for abroad CC last Nov so not eligible for the introductory rate on this.

It's a complete con!
you have to be a flex account hoder already (fair enough) but if you haven't paid in £750 p month for the last three months (which they don't stipulate on the site & you only find out when you contact them) you can't get the deal.& even if you have but also have a N'wide credit card already(which a lot of their customers like me will) you are excuded from the 'promotion' i.e the only bits worth having (0% on purchases 18 months & cashback) & can't upgrade your card!
I spoke to a supervisor & explained that whoever designed this promotion will have alienated non customers who don't have a flex account but also Nationwide card customers as well!
They agreed & would 'give feedback to the relevant dept' ie loose it!
What morons they are.My wife & I are now closing all our accounts with them & SO Martin...I THINK YOU SHOULD WITHDRAW THE PRIVILAGE OF YOUR RECOMMENDATION0 -

You do get the cashback and free foreign use abroad is certainly "worth having" for me.
The site stipulates that you must use it as your main account and says you have to pay in £750 a month.
A bank/building society requiring you to have an account with them to get their premium credit card (the normal card has no such restriction) hardly seems unreasonable to me, nor is it particularly unusual. And though annoying, the very nature of promotions are to entice people to join - again, it's hardly unusual for promotions to be exclusive to new customers.
Close your accounts if you want - just sounds like you're having a bit of a temper tantrum to me. Nothing has changed for you so why the fuss?0 -
Not all existing customers were forgotten. I already had an existing Nationwide Gold credit card. They switched me and I am getting 1% cashback for 3 months then 0.5%. Old card gave 0.25%. (Though the new card doesn't offer the free 1-year extended warantees that I used to get).0

I've been upgraded to the Select card (haven't actually received it yet) despite NOT paying in the £750 a month. Not all existing customers were forgotten. Yep. My Gold card was dormant for quite a while. Pity, I used to put a huge amount of spend through (UK and foreign). It was handy being on the same online system as my current account. Once they introduced the fee I looked around and ended up putting all my spend through separate cards.0 -

Not exactly what I meant but if it makes you happy...0 -
Don't get what you're on about: Existing customers still benefit from the other benefits aside the intro rates. Each person decides what benefits are important; for me that is free usage abroad with the cashback only a tertiary perk. Ok, the 18 month intro rate would have been a bonus, but that's about it.It's a complete con!
To irk you even further, I just switched to the Select CC
. I still get to keep current 0% intro rate (till 1 May '12) and my 9.9% APR afterwards. I am a happy bunny - NW Select for commission-free foreign purchases and Halifax Clarity for commission-free cash withdrawals abroad. 0 -

Did you do it by phone? They reckoned they were going to phone me back today about it but never did. Though I don't really know why! It sounded like it was all done and dusted until they said they'd call me later!0 -
Yes. The agent checked my existing acct and said he could see I was eligible for the upgrade, talked through the new Ts&Cs and all done. Just waiting to sign new CC agreement before card arrives.callum9999 wrote: »Did you do it by phone?
Btw, am I correct in thinking that foreign purchases, though commission free, will not benefit from the introductory 0% purchase rates?0 -
No, it isn't. I'm happy with the card and I'm glad that they have extended the offer to all who qualify. It's a complete con!
No, they're not. What morons they are.
Unless the offer specifies UK purchases only, I don't see why foreign purchases should be excluded. Perhaps best check with NW.Venusflytrap wrote: »Btw, am I correct in thinking that foreign purchases, though commission free, will not benefit from the introductory 0% purchase rates?0 -
The devil is in the detail (which you have missed,as well as the point)>if you hadn't paid in £750 for each of the last three months(ie since Oct) you would have to do it for the next three months so couldn't even apply until mid April. But say you had & if you already had a nationwide credit card you could get the new card but without the 0% on purchases for 18 months (which is the main attraction don't you think?).There are plenty of cards doing MUCH better cashback deals (capital one 5%)Effectively it is only of use to people who have a main flex account but no nationwide credit card. Not a temper tantrum, just a realisation that I would have been better off trying to get this deal if I had not been a nationwide customer in the first place. So now I wont be next time they come up with a similar deal.NB.You don't get the measly .5% cashback on spending abroad either.callum9999 wrote: »You do get the cashback and free foreign use abroad is certainly "worth having" for me.
