There is absolutely nothing to be gained from going in to branch.
Yes... I see this now...However - venting my spleen at someone may ease the pain a little....
Will get shot of the policy ASAP...

Always shop round, usually a much better price if you go direct, or through a comparison site.
House, car, insurance usually attracts a penalty if you renew, rather than get a new quote.
I'm not sure why people in this thread are implying it's only nowadays that this applies - surely it's always been the case that common sense dictates you ring around? I know I used to. Never once have I thought my cheapest option is doing nowt.0 -

Go to a car dealer and buy a car. Then go to the car dealer 4 years later and you will find the cars on offer are priced differently and have different features/options. These may be tweaks or they may be totally different. The same applies to financial services products. Now go to a different car dealer selling the same model and you will be offered a different price. Same applies to financial services.

Sorry! But I really had to stop laughing at the absurb idea that you could claim back the excess that you thought they'd charged you for the privilige of doing business with them. Never heard such bunkum. About time you actually learned how to budget properly. Mind you this year, I did renew with same company as no others could even come close for price and the cover that I wanted and could afford. Premiums had risen by £15 for both Build/contents with accident damage on both.
I would also suggest that you look at any cars that you insure as well. Oh and another thing, Banks/building society insurers are often some of the most expensive out there!0 -

Thank you for the pearls of your wisdom. I think the question had been well enough answered by the numerous sagacious responses to my initial question. If you read the thread with something other than the sad, cynical eyes you bear, you may notice that at no point did I mention claiming back any excess.
I asked a question - and thanks to those who offered the benefit of their knowledge, I am now wiser. Lesson learned.
It is a sad individual who seeks solace in the ignorance of others. To whose gratification? Your own perhaps? If self gratification is your policy, perhaps there is another method of achieving this - one more akin to your disposition?
