there no full time jobs going here at the moment i am looking for a third and fourth if i can get one, full time jobs in this area only pay minimum wage anyway all i want to know is what i am legally entitled too!!!
But that's the point posters have made, you should have been looking for a full-time job the moment your son was old enough to look after himself after school. I'm sure in 6 years time, there must have been a full-time job available....
In the end, either you tell your son to give you ALL his JSA to pay for the rent and bills (that's what it is for after all), or you tell him that it is time for him to learn to be independent and get a place for himself, and you dowgrade to a one bedroom flat.0 -
yes him reaching 20 was a total surprise,FOOL. there no full time jobs going here at the moment i am looking for a third and fourth if i can get one, full time jobs in this area only pay minimum wage anyway all i want to know is what i am legally entitled too!!!
who's the fool, the one who person who has a job capable of providing for them in the future, or the person who didn't bother to think ahead. in 20 years there've been no full time jobs then, or have you been resting on your laurels thinking the tax payer will pick up the tab for youBirthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest.

We only have the circumstances you are giving us. People will form an opinion on the information you provide. So far, it is that you work 28 hours, two part-time job, that there are no full-time jobs going at the moment, that your son has stopped education and therefore you are not entitled to tax credits or CB any longer, that he doesn't work, so claims JSA, and that you only ask him for less than 1/3 of what he gets towards his keep. We know that tax credits and CB are benefits for the sole purpose of providing for one child and once that child becomes a self-sufficient adult, his parents doesn't need any further benefits for them. We know that the governement expects people without care of dependents are expected to work at least 30 hours to be entitled to benefits.
All you have to do is seek 2 hours of employment per week, that's only one evening/morning of doing some cleaning, help at lunch time in a school, one week-end shift at Tesco etc... It doesn't sound like a totally outrageous expectations. Yet, you sound very angry that you can't claim extra benefits just because you are not entitled to tax credits/CB for your adult child.0 -
Sorry to hijack and go off topic but....
I think Vejovis's above post is a prime example of why I have not been on this site for a long long time. (Tho I only have 14 posts to my name!!)The reason being this isn't a very friendly site. This poor lady kath44 came on here to get some good advice only to get personally attacked from some posters on here. Which isn't right.
Am I right in saying that MSE love to promote a friendly and helpful website for all posters who are very much in need of help? Then why isn't this happening??.
MSE encourage all posters not to judge each other,as everyone's circumstances are very different from one person to the next and we clearly don't know everything about the poster.
The venom that is screaming out from some negative posts is truly quite frightening and all someone wants is a friendly helping hand with their problems.
I know I won't be asking for any help on here anymore, that's for sure!0 -
all iwanted to know was that if there was any help i could get,as i am on a low wage,my son is in college 1 day per week and had to go on jsa or the college wanted him to pay £2,500 towards his course.i knew the child tax would stop, but trying to get that extra 2 hours is a lot harder than i thought,i would love a full time job,but like i said nothing doing at the moment.i was wondering if i could get some housing benefit towards the rent? i WANT to work but with a low income it is hard to keep your head above water.thanks to some of you for trying to advise me anyway,i will leave it that now.i am not on here to cause trouble,i just wanted a bit of advice!0

Sorry I have to disagree with you. The OP hasn't been attacked by anyone. She asked for advise and has been given it. The problem is that she doesn't seem to want to listen to it. From what I gather she is a single adult with 2 part time jobs living with another single adult who is unemployed and not paying his way!!!0 -
Is there something you could do self employed for at least 2 hours a week?
It's not easy to find a full time job.0 -
£15 per week, and thats like getting blood out of a stone, lol
Download the MSE budget planner and fill it in. Show him the true cost of running a house. Show him how much you have lost in CTC and CB.
Then tell him that you expect to receive all of his JSA, bar £15 pocket money, because you've just demonstrated that you can't keep him, he has to pay his way.
Does he do his own washing, ironing and any cooking or cleaning? If not, time to withdraw those services, too.0 -
...i was wondering if i could get some housing benefit towards the rent?
Yes, if you are in privately rented housing, find the maximum LHA rate on the Direct Gov website. Then use this figure on the Turn2us online benefit calculator as it will take into account your employment income.
If you are in social housing, the benefit calculator will take you through it anyhow (LHA is for private housing, HB for social housing).0
