First direct seems a good alternative .
i really feel angry that Santander would do this to it`s customers . I MEAN DOUBLE !0 -
"Liz Chang, director of banking at Santander, says:"We are committed to helping our customers manage their finances more closely and the clear and transparent changes we are making demonstrate this."
Clearly demonstrated by doubling the charges!0 -
I got the letter today too.
Recently I queried 6 x £25 charges that had been applied for bounced direct debits, though the account had gone just £4 over the agreed overdraft, and I had not had any notification that this was going on, nor of the proposed charges. $antander apologised within hours and refunded five of the charges - this was my first altercation with them in 2 years and I was quite impressed.
However, doubling the overdraft charge has persuaded me to move. The Nati0nwide acc that I've held for over 30 years can become my primary account again whilst I decide where to try next.
Ex and I had a joint acc with Fir$t D!rect that he seriously messed up after he moved out (I didn't use it, joint account holder in name only). The debt was converted to a loan and is clear now and the account closed, but I'm not sure they will consider me for a new account with them in my sole name, and don't want to risk getting a record of being turned down. Ha1ifax aren't very appealing either. Co-0p maybe worth investigating?0 -
Citibank also offer a £500 interest free o/d and free family worldwide travel insurance if you fund with £1250+ pcm0

Santander are only good for one thing:
Fleecing the £100 joining gift.0 -
Translation: the buffer zone and grace period are being enforced on all the banks by the regulators. This will cost us money, so we're going to get that money back."Liz Chang, director of banking at Santander, says:"We are committed to helping our customers manage their finances more closely and the clear and transparent changes we are making demonstrate this."
Oh, and our parent group is seriously strapped for cash."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0 -

They altered a mandate that came out of my account then denied all knowledge! However, doubling the overdraft charge has persuaded me to move. The Nati0nwide acc that I've held for over 30 years can become my primary account again whilst I decide where to try next.
Just joined FD and can't fault their service.Ex and I had a joint acc with Fir$t D!rect that he seriously messed up after he moved out (I didn't use it, joint account holder in name only). How long ago was the problem? Not really FD's fault is it? You were a joint holder therefore would have had access to bank balances, statements etc.
Co-Op have a massive security risk in that they have access to all your security questions. They are not encrypted on their systems.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -
Well, closed my Sandanter (old A/L) accounts yesterday. Switch to Co-Op now complete and waiting for my £200 switching bonus to be paid in next month...0
