New Main 30 HE Boiler - is it Legal?

Though unsurprisingly that was significantly more expensive than the verbal quote I accepted over the phone.
Would I be right in saying if I call him and mentioned the "sedbuk band b" subject, he'll know what I'm talking about. Other threads have suggested it may be an Eco 30 - we'll see.
If I were to go ahead, how long should I expect the completion certificate to take, and would it be reasonable to hold back part payment until I receive it, and the gas safety certificate?
Other threads??
Do you have written quotations? Lots of advice @ Gas Safe Register.
My OH will notify his installs online to GSR when full payment has been received i.e. cheque clears/electronic transfer appears in his account. Customer can expect the BR cert via post from GSR in about 2 weeks after notification...customer can call GSR to confirm notification.
Btw...the Benchmark Log should also be completed and the warranty registration submitted.

Just in the diynot forums. Someone mentioned he could have meant eco rather than 30 HE.
I'll call him tomorrow to confirm. No written quotation. Though sounds like I should arrange one before agreeing for work to be taken out.0 -
You definitely need a written quotation - boilers are not cheap, and you should check that you are happy with the boiler proposed, not just put up with whatever the installer wants to sell you. The written quotation then enables you to check boiler performance, and whether it complies with current regs, as well as protecting you if the installer changes the boiler model....
Also check out the Gas Safe Register website as suggested above0 -
Always get a written quote/estimate otherwise the price can/will rise and you would be expected to pay the invoice.
Just a thought, have you asked for references, a few would be good. Gives you a good idea as to how he behaves when he's working in your house and whether he's contactable on the occasions that a problem arises. I can on average supply at least 4 at short notice. 10 if I've cleared it with the reference first.
Main are part of the Broag Group, as are Potterton, Remeha, Baxi. They do share parts but I'm not sure about just being rebranded. Good budget boiler.
Gas Safe will verify him, make sure you have his I.D card number too not just his Reg No.0 -
an estimate is not the same as a firm quote.Get some gorm.0

an estimate is not the same as a firm quote.
Agreed but, some installers won't give quotes due to hidden problems.
Estimates are easier as they allow the installer a little room to manouver if he finds a problem. An honest man wouldn't carry on work until he'd explained price rise with the customer and come to an agreement.0 -

I have always advised MSErs to always request written ,full specification quotations as estimates provide them with no protection....see here and here.
A thorough site survey conducted by a RGI before a quotation is compiled is essential and benefits both the consumer and the tradesperson.

Good point, though my estimates are 2 pages long and sometimes like war and peace. I was advised to title them as estimates by a solicitor.Canucklehead wrote: »I have always advised MSErs to always request written ,full specification quotations as estimates provide them with no protection....see here and here.
