Weymouth Bay- Haven
Easiness of location- easy to drive to.
Fairly close to the sea, there is a nature path leading from the back of the caravns to the cove.
Amount of attractions on site- Cycle hire, amusements, indoor soft play is tiny, the daytime under5's club wasn't worth bothering with as the teenage staff just sat & chatted. Smallish playpark but our son was 4 when we went, so good enough for himNice indoor pool, but they've added an outdoor pool since, which looks good! Ten pin bowling etc, and decent take aways on site. You also get to use the site next door, via a walk through a nature field.
Local things for people to do- LoadsWeymouth beach is lovely, long & sandy. Went to Sea life centre up the road, brilliant day out as bigger than other sea life's I've been to. Nice resturant next door, did a good family meal & had a soft play area to amuse the kids!
Portland Bill is nice, a little drive away, beautiful views, lighthouse tours, but very windy!
Place to avoid- Farmer Palmers... I thought it'd be a nice farm day out, but with so few animals, and just loads of old toy tractors etc to play on we were v disappointed! It may have got better since last year, but not worth the entrance fee IMO. Brewers Quay, nice to see. Weymouth old town & harbourlovelyBrownsea island, lovely
Cleanliness- very clean caravan * park- we were given a top luxury caravan from the Sun holidays when I had only paid for basic... I did query ot at reception, and they said if they have 'left overs', they allocate them to first served in basic, which was lovely!
Helpfulness of staff- brilliant staff
General marks out of 10 for whole experience 9/10.. happily go again0 -
Highly recommend Looe as a location but watch out for the seagulls - the biggest in the country and when they do their Michael Flatley moves on your caravan roof oh boy do you know about it! Once you know what it is it's ok - it's impossible to park in Looe due to the tiny streets but there's a big car park just over the bridge which isn't too much of a walk but lots of cobbles/uneven surfaces so not particularly wheelchair friendly but the prettiest places never are!
haha, yes you are right, the seagulls in Looe are absolutely massive, we took a photo of one because it was so fat! They tend to like chips I noticed. :rotfl:Whoever said 'Money doesn't bring happiness' isn't using it properly.0 -
Weymouth Bay- Haven
Have also been to Weymouth bay about two years ago and would agree with most of the above.
We went to the sealife centre and a lot of it was shut, very disappointed! However, we went off-season so maybe that's why.
One tip-the reservations desk at Haven had discount vouchers for Sealife and other local attractions so it's worth checking with them before going anywhere as you might be able to get a couple of quid off.
Farmer Palmers-yes, it was boring but our kids enjoyed it and it was packed!
Also worth checking out the bloke on the beach who does sand sculptures, if he's still there (Free!)
Also, Monkey World is fairly close, worth a visit. Also worth a trip to Lyme Regis. Lovely town and you can collect fossils for free on the beach. Fab chips there too!!0 -

BUNN LEISURE - SELSEY
We went in 2010.
First off, the check in staff were as misterable as sin. they all appeared like it was a chore to serve us.
Our caravan was delayed and when we finally received the keys we got to the 'van only to find it was still being cleaned. The cleaner said that he only got allocated 30 minutes to clean each unit, which clearly isn't enough. That said, out 'van was clean but it was a 2010 model so hadn't had enough time to get too dirty...
However, our caravan had an ant infestation - the Bunn staff seemed completely dis-interested in getting them removed.
View from the caravan was "Interesting" to say the least. We looked out on what was obviously a privately owned caravan. It had various 'interesting' items of scrap next to it. On the first day we had the pleasure of watching the owners + kids, sat around a pile of cable offcuts, stripping off the plastic insulation!! I kid you not!
In addition, there were a number of untaxed cars on the site which were obviously still used on a daily basis (We saw them driven)
We were on the main resort near the beach. A free bus service runs between all the camp centres meaning it's easy to get round if you want a drink or three...bus driver was very cheerful, friendly and polite. An example to other Bunn staff!
At one point a Bunn Leisure marked van drove past and the driver made "w*nker" hand gestures at another Bunn employee out of the window. This was outside the front of the main resort building in full view of lots of children. Certainly not appropriate!
The main entertainment block was 'grubby', all the smoked glass and mirrors feels very "80's" and it was all covered with fingerprints etc.
The restaurants were a tad overpriced but they do a cheap breakfast which is excellent value for money!! They also do a value Sunday roast but I didn't get to try that.
The main Embassy club lacked any soul; it was like sitting in an underground car park which happened to serve drinks. That said, they served real ale which was good and whilst the drinks were a tad overpriced it wasn't outrageous.
The kids entertainment was EXCELLENT though and far better than Haven. The kids entertainment runs in the main club until about 8pm when the more adult stuff takes over. The kids entertainment then moves to the kids club, a series of rooms off the main club area. This area includes toilets for the kids and is fully staffed. It's safe, they don't allow cameras or glass glasses. People were happy to leave their kids there while they went off to do other things; we stayed though.
The kids entertainment runs on to about 11pm and includes things such as magicians, competitions, games, discos etc...etc. The staff looking after the kids couldn't be faulted either. All seemed jolly enough and had real empathy with the children.
They also had a free small bouncy castle in the evenings plus a large pay one.
Evening entertainment was OK, nothing special while we were there but they do have some big name acts booked for later in the season which should be great. The "Team Stars" are fantastic, especially with the kids!
Apart from that, the on site convenience stores seem reasonably priced. They certainly aren't a rip off and some things were on special offer and were a bargain!
Would we recommend Bunn Leisure? Would we go there again? That's a difficult one.
The place has a lot of positives, so I'd probably say 'yes'. However, it's far from perfect.0 -
Just a little heads up guys
Haven at Caister called me yesterday to say they have had a re vamp but the main club house for weekend 16th march will not be open!! They open it on the saturday but for members only so our entertainment will be moved to the seagull club and then to the new one on the sunday, do hope this doesnt affect our weekend xx2025 Wins ::
