Stick with HTC Desire or upgrade to Galaxy S2?

On T-mobile and get:
900mins/500texts/unlimited landline/unlimited internet for £30/month
Got a free HTC Desire (original one) on that 18 months ago.
If I stay on T-Mobile, they are offering:
1) stay on tariff - discount down to £25/month
2) take a Galaxy S2 - £35 a month - 24 month contract
So is it worth an extra £10 a month for 2 years to get a Galaxy over my existing HTC? (My tariff would change to 2000 mins, but no unlimited landline. That probably makes no difference to me.)
I suppose as apps get bigger my HTC will slow down, and battery life isn't great. I think the HTC camera is rubbish, so perhaps that's the biggest advantage of changing?

Your circumstances will be personal to you but in these uncertain times you may be better switching to a Sim Only deal with a few months get out than commiting to a £840 contract for two years.
Do you use all your minutes, can you doen grade at all and save more, and does the camera make that much of a difference to you?0 -
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I use the 900 minutes. I use the phone for business. (In fact I'm away from the UK alot and the account is used by a colleague when I'm away. I'll take the phone with me and use foreign sims.) Yep - times are uncertain, but I'm still here doing what I do 18 months later when I had similar thoughts before. In fact I've had the account since 1995.
So the new 2000 minute tariff would probably suit me slightly better, but it's not significant, I can live within 900 minutes. (I use about 300 mins landline.)
The way I see it is I'm pretty much committed to the £25/month over the next 2 years. So the decision is over the extra £10 for 2 years - ie is it worth getting the Samsung for £240.
A reasonable camera would be useful. Sometimes I have to take "rough" copies of documents and the HTC isn't quite good enough. If I don't upgrade, I might well have to put some of that spend towards a small camera.
I can't see that I specifically need any other features, but the HTC battery life isn't great and it does seem a bit slow at times.0 -
How generous of them!chattychappy wrote: »On T-mobile and get:

New customers get the same for £20.42 with £101 TCB cashback, i.e. effectively for £12 p.m.
If you don't need unlimited landlines, the same is available without cashback for £16 at their outlet chitter-chatter.0 -

I'd agree with Grumbler, T-Mobile are not offering you that good a deal but if you think you'll be OK with the conmtract go for it.
You could sell on the handset for £75 to £100 too.
Battery life on most smart phones is rubbish though, a day at the most for most of them, not sure any newer phoen will be better. Battery management is better but the phones are more power hungry as processers get faster and screend bigger and better.0 -
can ou not go toa different network theyre offering much better deals atmWhat goes around-comes around0

I just got a new HTCEvo 3D to replace my Desire
yes the screens a bit better, its bigger and heavier though
it runs a newer version of Android but its not like a massive jump
I did a complicated cashback deal via O2,so its like buying the handset for £150 sim free (once all paid out)
I have ordered one of these sims http://recombu.com/exclusive/
I wouldnt want to be tied to a 24 month contract for any handset0
