lump on kitten's back

hi all one of our kittens is currently asleep on my fiance's lap. he was stroking him and noticed a small hard pea sized lump on his back where the top of his leg meets his back/neck area if that makes sense. we squeezed it and looked closely at it and our little boy did not even stir so we don't think its bothering him. he is only 13 weeks old and it seems to be like a fatty knot that is just there (hopefully) obviously i'm a bit concerned about it but am i panicking a bit for no good reason? i don't really want to pay for a vet visit if this sort of thing is fairly normal! any ideas?

i would go to the vet for sure.
my dog had a lump [WE HAD IT REMOVED] and my vet told me he will always take them off as they can lead to trouble.
my old dog had a lump which turned into cancer which killed her , we had her put to sleep as she did not have long left.0 -
Could it be where he had his vaccination?
Sometimes there can be a little localized reaction - but best to get it checked out by your Vet.Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -

Although I agree you should take him to vets, I also wouldnt worry too much. Cats are prone to getting Abcess' if they get scratches or cuts. Our boy was only about a year and he got quite a large lump on his back. It didnt bother him, so we kept an eye on it, a few days later we noticed he was licking it and it absolutely stank to high heaven, lump had gone and has never returned. But speaking to vets they said it was quite common for them to get them. Does he go outside yet? Or could he have caught it indoors anywhere? I always tend to wait a few days before taking them to vets in case things just sort themselves out, unless it was obviously something life threatening.0

do you have any more cats? if so it may be a nip off one of them, my kitten had a bald patch ( i thought he had mange:o) but the vet said it was where the other kitten had got a little rough and it was pretty normal in kitten play.
i would go to the vets though as its better to be checked:)***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0 -
thanks for all the replies. I really think its something to do with where he got his injections recently, but its under the skin, doesn't bother him at all and i can't see anything on the surface so that makes me think it isn't to do with the jabs? surely that would show as something on the surface. as its really not bothering him at all and we don't know how long its been there (could have always been there and could just be a fatty knot?) we're going to wait and see - he will be getting neutered in about 12 weeks so he will be at the vets then, but of course we will take him before then it anything changes. he hasn't been chipped yet and hasn't been outside so i don't think its a tick or anything like that. he has also had all his jabs and has been flea'd and wormed by the vet at the same time. we have literally just got our other kitten at the weekend just gone, so i know it isn't something she has done. its the fact its a hard pea sized lump so much under the skin that bothers me, but we will wait and see for now!0
