Help to find tiny puppy collar

Hi all you pet lovers :D

I need help to find a tiny puppy collar for our little Chi x JRT, she has been to the vets for her first jab today and they had nothing small enough. When our older dog was a puppy we got him the midget rogz collar from the vets but even this is too big for her. The vet tried a few cat collars on her today but no good. The vet suggested a ferret collar might work so I am going to look on ebay now. I prefer the fabric type collars with the squeezy black clip fasteners (sorry don't know how best to explain that bit :o) Would appreciate any ideas of places to look, thank you

Have you not considered a harness for your puppy? I personally don't like collars as they pull on the dogs throat if dog walks ahead or tries to run when on lead. I lost my last yorkie 7 month ago due to trachea collapse (although collars don't cause this condition, they don't help either) and now refuse to ever let my two new pups wear a collar on a lead.

I got my two pups harnesses from pets at home, XS size and although they were a little big when I bought them, they soon grew in to them and now 3 month later they need the next size!

Hi, would definitely consider a harness, Angel only weighs 1 1/2 pounds so is very small but we have a local pets at home so will take her in and see if they have anything, Thanks very much :D
  • Definately use a harness and maybe a cat collar to attach name tag. As they are stretchy it will come off if caught.

At that size, a cat harness may well work also.

More photos when you get it is must! :-)

Pets at home and Wilkinsons sell cat harnesses. My two pups were only around 2lb when I got their harness and it was a little big, I dont think they do smaller sizes but a cats harness should be fine until she grows. My Yorkies soon grew into their harnesses but never expected them to grow out of it (well only one has, he's a little fatty :) )

When I used to work in a petshop, we had a customer witha Chihuahua puppy so teeny that even kitten harnesses were too big - she ended up buying him a ferret harness! There's some snazzy sets of collars and harnesses here - http://www.ferretcouture.co.uk
Otherwise a H-shaped rabbit harness might work

There are probably online shops that specialise in products for little dogs though, plus you can probably find someone to make a custom sized dog harness.

I would recommend introducing a collar as well, you don't have to attach a lead to it but it is a legal obligation for a dog to wear a collar holding an ID tag when out in public. Now is a good time to introduce it so that the puppy gets used to it and doesn't find it an alien sensation if you try introducing it as an adult. You can buy cat collars that adjust to any size (and you trim the excess - being nylon, you can melt the ends to prevent fraying), like this - http://www.netpetshop.co.uk/p-21552-trixie-nylon-elastic-cat-collar-with-bell-colour-choice.aspx or http://www.catac.co.uk/shop/product.php?productid=196

I was in pets at home today to purchase a new harness and lead for one of my pups when I noticed this collar:

http://goo.gl/neGam (had to make link smaller as was huge!)

It is a size XS and so tiny. I couldnt believe how small it was so hopefully they will be the right size for Angel :) It was also reduced to £1.79 There was other designs to choose from too.

just to help with the sizing, our biggest ferret weighs around 4.5lb and his ferret harness still has plenty of "give" left in it. One of our ferret harnesses has reflective parts in the design, too, which I like from a safety angle. :)
  • Thanks everyone :D

I have just managed to find a lady on ebay who had some tiny ones, still too big but she is going to make me one to fit, it's really pretty too and has Angels on it. Think I will pick one of those up from pets at home too for that price it will be good to have a spare, will also look into a harness while there as would prefer both.
