I wonder what Ed would make of this? He can't back it as he will lose the faith of his only supporters the public sector lol.
Maybe they could set up a public sector version?
No sickies or reduce it to private sector levels and you get a bonus?
Increase productivity and again get a bonus?
Cut the massive waste and get a bonus?0 -
You mean he plagiarised an old idea.
Anyway there is a article on this site http://blogs.channel4.com/factcheck/ that states that employee owned companies do better for a number of reasons one of them is that in boom times banks don't want to lend to them so they can't get into a lot of debt.
thanks for the links but I can't really see an evidence that in general such firms do better than others?
in fact how many are there?
are far as sharesave schemes are concerned I think they are really not a good idea; to have your main savings and your income dependant upon the same firm seems a high risk strategy0 -

they can't lose anything so why not share the rewards. I noticed the staff in sharesaves cared more about the stock than those who just turned up for work and the ones in SS also followed the company's share price it made fantastic team spirit especially when a scheme was due to pay out. It also stopped you from leaving the firm as it was like golden handcuffs as loosing out on £30k is a big incentive to stay where you are.0 -

When I lived in Croydon the main supermarket was Safeway, which is now Waitrose. I popped in there on the way to buy some party fizz for a mate who still lives there. Whilst looking for something mid range, a spotty yoof employee came over, called me "madam" and asked if I needed any help. I was confused and briefly wondered if I'd got off at the wrong stop. However, on exiting the shop a local chav barged into me, shrieking YEAH, I'DA THUMPED THE FACKIN SLAAAAG into her phone, so I was definitely in Croydon.
Making more of the country as civilised as John Lewis is quite an undertaking I fear. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -

Yes thay can prices go up and down.

In a small enterprise it may help in a large one it is considered part of the package. Carp management will have a bigger downer than a once a year lift, if it happens.
Yes it is a Golden Handcuff potentially and locking you into poorer pay arrangements going forward.
Tip - If you are sitting on £30k pot from years of "investments" sell annually when you get the chance and reduce your exposure, unless you have some real control of the business."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... John Lewis's approach works for me. When I bought a Humax PVR thingy and it didn't work properly, JL said I'd should contact Humax direct for the speediest resolution as their stocks were almost exhausted. Profuse apologies.
However, when Humax told me they'd only send out a refurb, I complained to JL, and somehow they had a brand new one here the following day, picked up the faulty one and it was all sorted.
About a week later, a refurbed Humax arrived....:rotfl:
Let's see, since then I've had a camera, computer, vacuum cleaner and about half a dozen smaller things from JL, all guaranteed for 2 years rather than the usual one. No prizes for guessing why it wasn't Agros or !!!!!!-useless World.0 -

They can be competitive if they want to be. Brought many items recently at the same price (with extended guarantee), or similar but with the pleasure of shopping with their customer service, over the last couple of years.
At Christmas they price matched on a few items , even against relatively small "high street" competitors.
Never had a problem with delivery. Click and collect at my local Waitrose is painless, with no problems, better than having to wait in for a delivery.
Just replaced a microwave, from a high street brand internet arm (so no price match) and JL were 25% more expensive, so need to cherry pick.
The staff at our Waitrose are nice people but so are our closest Aldi staff too - with totally different work practices and pay policies."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
