Peacocks in administration

That's why so much value product doesn't last or wear well.......so has to be replaced so often. It's a kind of ever decresing spiral. a race to the bottom.....and Peacocks joined the race and lost.
This is not just confined to the fashion industry it is the same across all sectors e.g. white goods, technology, Services even the NHS. Constant cost cutting erodes quality to the point you have to keep replacing it.
In the case of Services people keep re-modelling and only when the carp hits the fan does quality get pulled back up with an overspend for a period then it falls back.
No different to UK PLC either we have sold off all our assets and borrowed to the hilt, in some cases the lending has been repackaged several times squeezing out vestige of asset value along the way."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Its a shame. I liked Peacocks for some things usually wrap type tunic/dresses that are nice for wearing to work and conforming to the smart offic wear rules when i have been pregnant.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

Erm Peacocks was making £70 million year the debt is from a buy out back in 2006
Want to get your fax right, and I agree MrRee is a total k**b
Whether or not it was making money through trading, the fact remains the same it is bankrupt. The reasons are irrelevant.
As such, it has no place continuing to exist.
Let's be honest. It is another Woolworths; a shabby store that had its heyday in the 70s and has tread water ever since. I don't remember even seeing a Peacocks store in the last twenty years.
Sorry for the people who lost their jobs, but companies do not exist to employ people; they exist to be profitable. They are not welfare agencies.0 -
Actually this year when I got the staff discount through, I actually bought more in bon marche than peacocks, which was unusual as bm are usually for older people. Sorry but a lot of their stuff is old(er) fashioned. But this year when I went in I managed to get some quite trendy stuff and some nice jumpers, but noticed the quality was a bit better than peacocks. BM was never a shop I went into, but was going with my elder sister.
So I dunno if it's cos I'm getting older or just the quality was better :rotfl:4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Lots of those shops only do size 10/12 and above. That's my only problem.**Debt Free as of 15:55 on Friday 23rd March 2012**And I am staying that way

I don't think anyone has mentioned it but I found this to be quite interesting.
Profits take off at Peacocks.Peacocks was the subject of bids by the private equity firms Bain Capital and Blackstone last year(2011), but the retailer pulled the sale process after bids of £500m fell short of its price tag of £600m.0 -

I've fixed your quote for you. Councils these days, make it deeply unpleasant with their anti-motorist attitude. So motorists (i.e. the buying public) took the hint and have gone elsewhere.0 -

Exactly! When you have to pay a fortune to park for even just two hours, its not worth the hassle, the stress or the petrol. I pay enough in council tax as it is without being charged to park to go spend my money. I instead choose to spend online where I most times get free delivery, no stress and no parking charges.
Councils are ruining town centres and putting shops out of business with ludicrous business rates and car parking fees which keep shoppers away.0 -
if you look at my local high street you would not believe that there is some kind of council "plan" regarding it. they could not have made a worse job of it. if the plan is to have the world's worst high street, then it is massively successful.0

I live in a town with no parking charges. Nor are there any parking charges in the county for the main streets and council run car parks. They are planning to bring changes in soon though. Small town, small county. Peacocks was actually one of the busiest (clothes) shops in the town, until they opened matalan which is a wee bit out of town.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0
