Peacocks in administration

They employ a lot of Welsh people there, especially from the Valleys as it's between the valleys and the city .... but once you go inside the building the signage is in English/Polish and not the usual English/Welsh you see everywhere else.
There's quite a few firms in Wales employing a lot of Polish now. Tesco's distribution centre also prefers to employ Polish rather than Welsh/English.0 -
MrRee's comments strike me as really odd!!
Does he really believe that posters check the post count of the person they are replying to?? I certainly don't but maybe I should pay more attention!
Could you perhaps clarify the rules for me though and let me know at what post count I should avoid antagonising the poster?
Having had a good look now, obviously MrRee has a huge number of posts to his name and so should be treated with total respect at all times.
I, however, have a measly number, so can expect to be treated like the Muppet I am for several more months I guess.
:rotfl:
And to further lower everyones opinion of me, I bought 6 pairs of woolly socks from Peacocks on Saturday and they're lovely...0 -
Hi all,
Can I please request that threads are kept on topic? Thanks0 -
Well, if Peacocks go, it will certainly make that end of town in our town centre look rather sorry for itself...especially if Bon Marche go too!
Our Peacocks is where the old Woolworths used to be and due to a recent scheme in the town, increased parking fees, a recent hike (which has also been backdated) in business rates and the recession, our town centre shops are really realy struggling....we have had two shops close in the last few days!
If this carries on, it will be spot the open shop amongst all the empty ones.....We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
there is just no way the High Street can cope with the internet and huge out of town shopping centres. the sooner people realise that the High Street is for restaurants, coffee shops etc and NOT shops, the better.0

I agree! I haven't bought anything from the High Street or a town center over the last year and the thousands I spent this Christmas just gone was done online. Better prices, delivery to my door, I can shop in comfort. I can't see the high street or town centers surviving, they don't have the volumes of stock or choice and things cost more. I've been shopping online for 15 years now but in recent years I shop totally online. I even get my cat food cheaper (and in bulk) from Amazon, town prices cannot compete. Even 30Kg bags of cat litter come from the internet (I buy 2 a month) I refuse to pay to park in car parks as I already pay council tax and every other tax that we are forced to pay, yet cities expect me to pay a fortune to spend a couple of hours walking around over-priced shops with chavs on every street hanging about? No thanks, its internet all the way for me0 -
Well I for one think Peacocks was getting better - it's certainly not a high end store BUT I grew up in a town with one, and I visited one a year or so ago (hadn't realised there was one near us after we moved, went in to browse).
It seemed the range and quality had improved to roughly on par with other similar outlets compared to what I remembered, anyway...
... and I noted the nice selection of blouses, plain skirts, plain trousers at the time. This was a couple of months after switching job roles where I had very little budget to spend on work clothes so had outfitted myself from your basic retailers (primark type shops) whether I wanted to or not.
Perhaps the "cheap" end of the market is flooded, but it did seem to me that Peacocks was upping its game compared to other stores being bandied about here like Woolworths, which from what I saw never really saw much of an attempt to modernise its stores and keep up to date with what its competitors were doing.
Of course, I'm also sorry to hear about the number of jobs at risk here, I hadn't realised they employed so many.0 -
My sons girlfriend works for Peacocks and was just told officially yesterday of the threat of administration and job losses. There goes their holiday plans!!0

The high street is not being helped by councils. Ours has had a masterplan, lets start charging in the previously free car park. Now it is always half empty. You cannot get a space to shop in the previously underused Aldi car park. The streets are chocca with parked cars and the high street shops are empty. They have also brought in a high street regeneration tax on the shops, unbelievable. They then build themselves a nice new large free staff car park in the town centre with very little access to visitors, nice one council.0

At the rate we are going we may drag the chavs into buying decent stuff ....... could be a good end result. Pull the dregs living off benefits up in standards!
Don't agree with your sentiment but I don't think we could affor the uplift in benefits to buy expensive branded tat"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
