Does anyone know how....

...I can override the amazingly irritating surround sound system my occasionally equally irritating husband has installed on our tv? Is it possible? I just want the sound to come out the tv. Is it too much to ask for?!

Yes you may find a portable TV in the kitchen suits your needs better, leaving husband to enjoy SS in peace.
Or simply turn of the AV amp and turn up/unmute the TV, f that does not work then please post the equipment and what you are viewing Sky/virgin etc..0 -
Go into your TV menu, look for sound options & set to restore default settings.Although as TV's & the settings are different,it's not something easily advised without make/mode/ ect.....0

Fantastic answer!!
Sorry op.0 -
Fair enough, Kurtis! I supposed I asked for that. It's definitely an option, I assure you!
I know I should embrace modern technology and a shiny new system, but I hate it. I'm fine being a Luddite. Since I am a Luddite, I have no idea of the equipment until I'm standing in front of it, so will have to get back to you on that.
Appreciate the answers. Even with the level of p***-taking!0 -
If you don't tell us how it's connected, or what it is, it'll be hard for us to advise you. But if it's connected into the TV's headphone socket, unplug from there and you'll get the TV speakers back...0

as others have said, with out knowing what the equipment is how it is connected, it is very hard to give the right answer.
If you have an AV receiver, search on its remote for something called as "mode" or sound mode. There should be an option to turn off the surround speakers and just use the left + right speakers of the system. On my Onkyo receiver, I have a sound mode of Direct, which does this for SD sound only. for HD sound, even this will feed through all channels.
Easier option is to ask your husband??0 -
All I have to do is leave the surround sound system off and turn the volume up on my telly.0

Get some ears that work properly!0

I had to give up surround sound because my wife hated it. What is it about female hearing?
One day I came home to find her listening to a CD with one stereo channel missing. It was obvious to me because there were no violins (and there should have been)!
"Oh," she sighed. "I must have pulled the wire while I was vacuuming."
But she hadn't noticed that half the orchestra hadn't turned up for work!0 -
Female 'Turn that up, I can't hear it'
Male 'It's meant to be quiet they're whispering, listen harder!'
F 'Aagh! That explosion was really loud and scary! Turn it down'
M 'It was an explosion, it's meant to be loud!'
And so on, etc etc...0
