Could I get any help from anywhere to help with my vet costs :(?

My dog had an accident and I don't have pet insurance.

She cut the main vein/artery in her leg and lost lots of blood.

So far it has cost me

£741 yesterday
£ 42 today for medication anti-inflam and anti-biotic.

And there is still more to come, I have to pay for the next consultation and to have her bandage removed.

I earn £11,278 a year atm, and earn roughly £900 a month. So the vet bill is going to basically come to more than my monthly wage. I am 19 if it makes any difference.

I thought I would ask yo unice MSE for advice i I can claim from anywhere. PDSA was not option as I am not receiving housing benefit.

I kept the receipts on off chance I could claim some help back.

Where in UK are you? That may help other members to point you in the right direction.

If you are in London, a celia Hammond branch would help:

    http://www.celiahammond.org/

    They got branches:

But I doubt anyone will help towards what you have already paid....

Hope your dog get well soon.

That is the biggest expense what I have already paid. I obv wouldn't expect it all back just wonered anywhere I could send receipts and get some slightly refunded?. I am in derbyshire.
  • Sorry to here of your prediciment.

my friend was £350 and had to choose to get her cat put down cause she couldnt afford the vet bills. I kept telling her to get insurance as i only pay £6 a month for my cat but she didnt and he got hit by a car.

I would have said PDSA but if your not in receipt of benefits they would still have help the animal but charged you the actual cost but may have allowed you to pay it up.

you need to speak to your vet and explain the situation. They may agree a payment plan or give you a reduced rate.

But sorry dont know anywhere that gives out money to help cover vet costs

    Good luck

I am sorry but I really doubt it - why would anyone refund the cost of treating your pet?
Sorry, do not mean to be harsh but this is just the way it is.

Perhaps your vet can agree to some kind of an instalement plan?

Please think about insuring your dog from now on.

Well I will be fine if they would be willing to wait but I beleive vets require money upfront. My dog is going for a bit more treatment on wednesday the 18th and I am being paid on the 28th. If there willing to wait 10 days it would be fine if not I don't know what to do.

Have you got a credit card? You could put it on that till you get paid

They'd be more likely to accept deferred payment if you give them your card details.

Ask them to take the money on Mon 30th as 28th is a Sat, so to make sure it's in your account.
Having insurance wouldn't have helped your cash flow, as the insurer takes eight to twelve weeks to repay in my experience, even though claim form was completed by Vet.
    Good luck with it.

It could have, depends on the vet. Some are happy (with a large bill like that) for the pet owner to pay just the excess and then the vet claims directly from insurance. My vets do this with bills over £250.00, I pay my £65 excess and they claim the rest directly from my insurance
