    Hi Bebs,

Not sure if this is all sorted for you or not but i'd recommend you get around 3 FIXED QUOTES (not estimates  ) and compare the prices and what's being offered - after all the cheapest may not be the best!

Personally though, i'd recommend a Vaillant, I have one and it's never caused me any problems

    HTH

    Good luck!

Still working on getting some more quotes and Vaillant are top of my list of all options. Currently contemplating upgrading the system to completely sealed, as I probably should replace the tank anyway (having 28 years of limescale in a hard water area built up inside it...a power flush could trash it). Mains pressure hot water will mean I can get rid of the power shower.

vaillant or worcester all day long, if you get a worcester accredited installer you will recieve a 5 year warranty aswell
  • Why do boiler installers quote for over sized boilers. British Gas at least measured the house and came up with a proper estimate of the size boiler needed for the property, which not surprisingly matched the existing boilers output and also matched what I had calculated from a whole house estimation tool on the net. The last 2 quotes I've had have got bigger boilers each time, and they never took a tape measure out of there pocket, they didn't even do the simple job of looking at the existing boilers rating plate and asked me if it heated the house/water ok (which it does - only being G rated it's obviously inefficient).
Oh well, 3 down and 3 more to go -so far.

Has anybody got any rough guides as to what it would cost to fit a new boiler and also upgrade the heating/hotwater system to a fully sealed system at the same time.
So far I have had ball park figures of £2800 to £3000, then £3500 to £4000 and I have an actual quote of an unbelievable £5800 - including a ridiculously over sized boiler for my size house - the lowest modulation output of the boiler is only just under the peak capacity of my existing boiler - obviously totally unsuitable and would be inefficient (and almost twice the price of the boiler in the same range that I need - a Vaillant 615 and they specified a 637) - why would they do that?

I have some more heating installers coming next week, hopefully they will inspire confidence in their abilities to correctly spec a system and fit it.
If I can't get some consistent prices/advice I will play safe and just replace the boiler and keep everything open vent (as I have a reasonable quote already for this option).
