Excuse me but where exactly were some of the comments helpful? Did they reply saying "why don't you try emailing xxxx" or similar?

If one asks a straightfoward question or for a particular piece of advice why should that poster have to put up with rudeness, or as you put it, ribbing.
My original post did not ask for opinions, it asked for advice which sadly has not been forthcoming.
And before I get the usual replies to this post I have noticed other people making the same complaints on these forums. It seems to me that there are certain people who revel in being rude, unhelpful, call it what you will.

Now that's my ribbing and difference of opinion!!!

If you don't like it, why are you on here?

  • If you don't like it, why are you on here?

Who said I didn't like it?

To be honest I find the childishness of some of the posters quite amusing, although at times I do feel for the o/p when he/she is the victim of the playground bullies and they take it to heart.

I've spent today trying to find the answer to my question and I thought I might find it here. I was sadly mistaken. As you will see from my posting history I do not spend my life on here and I certainly have not posted 11,772 times in two years (that's an average of about 16 a day). I do think that perhaps people should get out more then they might not have so much time to waste making stupid, childish comments to otherwise perfectly requests for assistance.

Hows that for ribbing and a difference of opinion ?:rotfl:

No-one's mentioned it, but why couldn't your daughter buy the boots online, i'm sure it's free delivery over £50, that would have saved her the bother of spending the petrol money / time going to the store

Edit: Sorry, my mistake, free delivery is for items of £30 or above

We offer a free UK standard delivery service for all orders of £30 or over. Standard delivery is usually delivered within 5-7 working days. For orders of less than £30, a £3 delivery charge applies.

Surely a pair of John Lewis boots costs much more than £30

They also seem to offer a Click and Collect Service, see here for more details

I take it that's a pop at me. I'm disabled, find it difficult to leave the house and live alone. I have little contact with others and MSE is my only real lifeline in an otherwise mundane and frankly quite lonely existence.

Why mock me for my pleasures?

One poster posted a link to the store locator page and others mentioned similar things, I thought that was quite helpful.

fluffnutter is correct in saying that a certain amount of "ribbing" or sometimes just plain rudeness goes on here, its not great but sometimes you do have to take the answers you don't like along with those that you do - not saying its right, but it happens.

you could PM Sirmarcus - he has the email address for just about every CEO known to man!
  • I read recently on another (I think!) bulletin board, a post saying "never question why someone is posting at a strange time or how often, as you never know their personal circumstances. Some people will be posting on Christmas Day, as they have no one to be with, and it is not (y)our place to be enquiring as to why"

On the JL front, I worked there when they were just bringing in store based call centres, as it was becoming increasingly diffficult to serve the people who had come in to the shop in between answering all the phone calls.

Walk round a John Lewis, and you won't here phones ringing all over the place, you certainly used to!

Last week I rang JL to enquire about a panasonic surround sound system I wanted, and the call centre wasn't sure if my local branch had one. When I asked to speak to the shop floor directly, they tried to put me through (no claims that theyt didn't deal with customers) but couldn't get an answer. I was told that the store would call me back within two hours.

A while later (I wasn't checking my watch to be honest) I got call back from the branch in question. Apparently they have to answer calls referred from the call centre within two hours, so whoever told you that shops didn't deal with calls from customers is talking rubbish. The guy checked stock availability and on wednesday my surround sound arrived, which was nice.

I am really having problems trying to find out if a branch of John Lewis has a particular item in stock. If you ring any of the numbers for a store you get through to a scottish call centre who answer as that store but eventually admit they are a call centre. They say their computer is showing that item in stock at that store but we all know that what the computer says and what the actual position is can be two different things.
No amount of pleading would persuade them to either put me through to the store or for them to contact the store to find out the true position. To visit the store would cost me quite a bit in petrol and parking so I wanted to make sure it was in stock. I was told the stores do not deal directly with the public!!!
Does anyone know any email addresses for John Lewis other than the stock page on their website please?
    OMG, I feel your pain.
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!
