'Sneaky preview of the new MSE masthead –what do you think of m'pic?' blog discussion

I like the masthead, apart from the unfriendly pose by Martin - although that seems to go with the 'bouncer' theme that they seem to be cultivating with the scary "WE RUN THE MSE FORUM" picture.poppy100

Apart from pedantically pointing out that it's a Sneak preview, not a Sneaky one (unless you know different!), and objecting to all this Facebook and Twitter response rubbish (this is a BBS, after all), I doubt anyone takes a second look at the masthead, except to try to find the correct menu dropdown. The pose does look a bit smug ("It's MINE, all MINE!"), and I think you should Dare to Wear Red...0

it is a nice picture, just that the image isn't memorable
also the name martin lewis' needs to be prominent
in that respect this ...
... was an ideal webpage title0 -
Oh my!
Folded arms a no no.
Your shirt is undone a little too far, just one more button would be nice.
You blend into the background, we like to see you Martin. x£2021 in 2021 no.17 £1,093.20/£20210 -
Prefer the current one0

1) the green removed - good
2) old buttons looked better to me (with just colour in the font) the new solid colour buttons just cancel out the removal of the green! IMHO the plainer the better - get rid of the colour overload
3) Better if the pic is closer in on just your head0 -
Sorry Mrs MSE, and each to their own, but too much body hair on show for me. I would prefer an extra button done up“All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt.” Charles M Schulz0

Is this going to be used in the forums where it will reduce the visible vertical screen space by about two rows of text?
Search and the destination list (home, forum etc) seem to have been misplaced to maximise space usage and minimise functionality. The current location to the right of the site name seems most sensible since it's otherwise unused space.
Looking at the very large site name, about 4-5 rows of text worth of space use, perhaps it's time to move that "Cutting your costs, fighting your corner" text to the same above the body position as the Martin Lewis name? The drawbacks with the current position are more vertical and horizontal space usage. Seems to be way more focus on an enlarged name than seems sensible, people already know where they are when they get here, no need to shout it out and waste more usable screen space as a result.
Before the change it's 448 pixels before I see the first part of a forum post. Looks a bit like a campaign to try to get the posts below the fold, though at least it's not quite going to manage that on a 1366x768 resolution display yet.
Vertical space for reading is the most precious single display commodity. Please try not to use it more than strictly necessary for header information.0 -
Shirt colour looks fine and the realistic wrinkling looks appropriate for a site focused on the real world, not showbiz. Not keen on the combination of crossed arms and smaller head that makes it hard to see the smile and tone down the serious appearance - you're a guy who gives a friendly impression in general but that image doesn't really let it shine through. And that smile can't really be made that much bigger without looking faked.
So far as connection goes I'm more likely to connect with your face than your torso but suspect that the torso view may be there because the large increase in vertical space use made just a face shot look too big.
I like the switch from green to white for general background colour.0 -
