If you can have everything boxed up by Saturday morning and have a trailer and a car then surely you just need another man for a couple of hours for the big things (presumably your OH can do boxes himself and you can do some light bits, like clothes, driving and arranging things at the other end). Like others have said, why not a message in the newsagents window (or on facebook!) offering a few quid for a couple hours work - then you just do the boxes and clothes by yourselves and have help for the furniture which, if there is only a 5 min travel distance, shouldn't take so long. When we moved we got free boxes from Poundland and managed to secure a free man with a van because we asked a local second hand furniture shop if they would move our stuff for free (only 5 mins, like you) if they took the things we no longer needed (2 wardrobes, a chest of drawers and a bed) for free.0

Just use a white van man. We always used a removals firm we found on Gumtree and they charged something ridiculously cheap like £25 per hour for 2 men (in London) and they did the job in about 3 hours (2 bedroom flat move) and they were great, we used them 3 times. Obviously you need to pack everything up beforehand and be organised but it shouldn't take long.0

Hello!
We have agreed a swap from our flat to a house on the other side of town. It's an opportunity we can't say no to.:j:j:j
Now we have a few "issues"
We have 1 flight of stairs to get down and I'm 3 months pregnant, what are we doing!!
I have a 1 year old daughter and will have to take her to my Mums which is 45mins away so half my morning will be taken up by taking her there and back and then I'll also have to collect her in the evening as Mum won't have her overnight.
Would your mum consider staying with you the night before then taking your little girl to her's in the morning , then bringing her back at dinner time or bedtime, thus giving you more time for the move??
We need to buy 2 blackout blinds for daughters room from that (£15?). I'll also need to buy boxes from that too.
Know anyone good at sewing, they could run up some blinds or blackout linings for curtains.??
A few tips for smooth move;
If moving chest of drawers, instead of emptying them, just lift drawers out with items still in them and put in your car, once the unit is moved just lift drawers with items in them back into unit. Also keep clothes on hangers, easier to hang back straight in the wardrobe.
Keep essentials box and label well. Kettle, t bags, coffee, spoon, sugar etc etc and another box for your little girls night essentials, favourite teddy, dummy, pillow whatever she likes/needs to have for bedtime.
Keep quilt cover on, place pillows in middle and fold taking sheet of as well and place in black bag, when you go to make up your bed again, place in middle of bed and unfold.
Make sure you have some lightbulbs handy, strange what some people take with them.
Also remember to inform supply companies and take final meter readings, and readings when you arrive at your new home.Try sticking a notice in the newsagent's window saying 'Strong Person needed to assist pregnant woman (and OH) with house move on [whatever date] - £30 (or whatever) cash'. Items to be moved include TV, sofas, fridge freezer, cooker, washing machine etc.'
Jx
This is a really good idea !!!! OR Maybe you have a neighbour/workmate who would help, Do you have a Staff Noticeboard at work, where you could post something???3 months isn't that far along, an hour and a half isn't a morning's travel if you leave early, and a tractor and trailor sounds great. Can't see the problem. It's only 1 day.
Moving house is one of the top 3 events which is measured as MOST stressful. Could be doing without 3 hours driving and then feeding, bathing and bedding (having to make up a bed 1st), whilest 3 months pregnant and moving all in the same day.
You have posted on the right place, you will get many good ideas and replies on here, as I have received, but whatever, make sure you are alright, do NOT do any heavy lifting and don't stress!!!
Well done and Good Luck - all will be worth it :j:j:jLooking forward to the day I have nothing left to list on eBay0 -

Wow! Very helpful!
Mum can't stay as she works evenings! I'm going to ask her to book a day/nights holiday from work and keep the little one from the night before and bring her back at bedtime on the day of the move. I'll have to think of a special way to repay her for taking a holiday though! Otherwise we will just have to manage, I have friends who probably can't help with lifting and packing etc. as they have young children of their own to look after but if needed I can ask them to either take the little one for the day for me or if not they could just drive her to my Mums for me and I'll pay the petrol.
I think mostly the problem is me! I have help if I need it, I'm just so stubborn and awkward and have the motto "If I want it done right I'll do it myself" so I never ask others to help, I don't really have a choice here though!
I can keep all the little one's stuff together, she has her own little bag and I'll pack it the night before with food, nappies, clothes and pyjamas etc. and her teddy and dummies.
We don't have bedroom furniture, it's something we've never got round to buying so half of our clothes are in the built in wardrobes and what's left is in boxes and bags under the bed. I should be able to move most of it as it is.
It looks like we are going with the tractor and trailer and OH has a work friend to help.0 -

What would your mum like, a new hairdo? her nails done? a bottle of wine? or some chocs and flowers?.
I have friends who probably can't help - young children .....
Do they have OH who may be able to help?? with moving and lifting etc ....
"If I want it done right I'll do it myself" so I never ask ....
You can still do most of the packing if you want to, it's just the lifting that you want to avoid (sorry wrong word) .. it's just the lifting you would like help with. Remember if the boxes are labelled Kitchen, Bedroom, Living Room, etc, they(the helpers) will not need to ask you which room you want it in.

We don't have bedroom furniture, ...
Have you spoke the the swappers? Maybe they don't want to take all their furniture with them. You could always buy one of these garment rails that have wheels on them as a stop gap for your clothes.
It looks like we are going with the tractor and trailer and OH has a work friend to help.
Have some cold drinks handy for them and maybe a Mars bar or two, as they may get peckish!!! Thirsty work - moving.

Also remember to keep Pen, paper and selotape handy on moving day, and mind to ask who you are swapping with, if they have given you ALL the sets of keys for their house.
Also ask, if they have a land line and you are going to keep it on, that they ask for it NOT to be disconnected, as that usually means a huge re-connection fee, if disconnected,
Will think of more things later, When are you due to move?
More later.Looking forward to the day I have nothing left to list on eBay0 -
Just wanted to say a big huge thanks to everyone for the tips, everyone is so kind and very helpful! Sadly we aren't moving as there are issues with the neighbours at the new house we found out about accidentally hence why they were so keen to move ASAP!0

our 'van & man' well two men actually cost under £100 from a 2 bed house to a one bed flat with two sets of stair, one outside property one inside.
I've always used 'man & van' for all my house moves.
It's a shame you didn't move but good job you found out about the neighbours first.0
