Cable wanted

Our town does not have any cable TV still and I have been waiting many years now to switch from Sky to Virgin to save money.
I have no idea if they are planning to install it and if so when, is there anyway I can check or get a petition started to get enough people interested so they will?
Other than this who else can I go to as I am starting to think Sky are getting expensive, saying this though we do watch a lot of the Discovery channel which is a pay to view but I dont know if any other supplier offers it in a package.
Thanks

If you don't already have Virgin cable installed it is unlikely you ever will, especially in a whole town. The infrastructure costs are just too great.
Maybe they or BT Vision eventually do a TV-over-phone line service when Fibre to the Cabinet gets widespread.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
VM haven't put any money into network expansion for years, that was what bankrupted NTL and Telewest. It's not going to happen, petition or no petition. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

The two large towns over from me are about 50% cabled & have been since around 2003,to this date no one has gotten cable as yet nor are the any plans to release it.VM may cable up small estates off a main dig but as for large builds, they dont have the money nor the manpower anymore.0

Virgin have deals in place with some of the national house-builders for new build housing developments to be added, at the build stage, to the cable network... but only if they are in/very close to an existing cabled area!
I also understand that any housing developers, large or small, can also approach Virgin about funding/cost incentives to add a cable network to the development, again at build stage, and again if they are in an existing cabled area.
There is also this link, which might throw some light on things - http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Fibre-optic-broadband-cable/Want-Cable-been-told-it-s-not-available-We-might-be-able-to-help/td-p/205850 -
Google cablemystreet - there's an email address you can use to request, or at least find out about, getting your area cabled. I did this - there's cable a few hundred yards from my new development - the answer, as you were advised above and as I got, will probably be 'no'. If you MUST have Discovery, it's Sky only I think (is it on BT Vision). This is how Sky make their money - see if you can wean yourself off!0
