Sky go whilst abroad

Options
Hi all, I have Sky Movies until end of Jan, we're off on hols in Feb, and I wondered if anyone knows if I download a few films on Sky Go, will I still be able to watch them in offline mode after the subscription runs out?

Thanks

Doubt it very much, these movies & programmes are encrypted on Sky go, so you require a valid working subsription in order to watch them.I downloaded a programme on Sky player some time ago & tried to watch it after I'd stopped subscribing to Sky & it was scrambled,so I'm pretty certain it wont work for you, plus I doubt the Sky Go player would work out of the UK.
  • Thanks spike7451, think I'll just take a couple of DVD instead then. It's just in-case we get a cool day and need to keep busy.

I thought Sky Go was only a streaming service anyway? As far as I'm aware there's no facility to download a film through Sky Go.

Ahhh, you're using the PC Sky go program?

I guess your laptop will be offline when u go abroad and cant see why downloaded content (that u did in the UK) cant be viewed if its physically on your laptop hard drive - just watch in the time limit given.

I would hazzard a guess that the Sky Go desktop app will not play the content if
    a) the content has expired
    b) your subscription has expired
    That would make logical sense.

true BUT if it can't talk to the server (ie your offline/ no internet connection) how can it check?

I havent used the new service, but the previous incarnation had a declining number of days to watch downloaded stuff.

The best bet would be for the OP to download the stuff they need and try and view in while in the UK with there web disconnected.

If it plays (doesn need net connection for playback) then I reckon it'll work abroad.

It'd be Interesting to know tho' OP.

Hi all, yes to clarify I'm using the Sky Go desktop for Mac, you can download programmes/films and watch off line. The films say they have 29 days to watch, which is great, but the subscription to movies runs out on the 24th Jan.

When you open sky go you get the option to watch offline. So I'm hoping that when on hols I could just watch the downloaded films offline.

I'll report back and let you all know.

Sky Go doesn't work outside Sky's range in UK and ROI and only matches your TV subscription, hope this helps
