Vanquis Credit Card - How soon did you get one?

  • I don't know if it was a co-incidence, but within a week of my bankruptcy order I was offered a Vanquis credit card. Because I don't want to get in credit again I chucked it away, but now I'm wondering if I should have taken it out to start rebuilding credit score? I am hoping that within the next 10 years I might want to buy a house. Anyway, I'm not worrying about all that yet.

Similar to others, I was discharged March 2011, cleaned up my file in the summer, then I think I applied for Vanquis in Oct and got excepted with a £250 limit. First month I did a bank transfer to pay of within a couple of days of spending but then from the following month I had them do the direct debit so that it took the full balance each month. Been using reguarly and clearing it with the DD each month and about 2 weeks ago I got a letter saying they were upping my credit limit to £500 from Feb :-)

Thanks for the heads up with this, guys. I've just applied, so fingers crossed. As some others are already doing, I'll purely use it for petrol. Hopefully, I'll not be shunned!

  • Do keep a close eye on your statements. In my experience, they add the odd nonsensical charge here and there, which can be a pain to sort out, depending on how well trained the call centre person is.
