Vanquis Credit Card - How soon did you get one?

Options
Hi all

I was declared bankrupt in March 2011 and discharged in November 2011. Have just sent off for my credit files so I can start the clean up process but saw people talking about using the Vanquis credit card to help re-build their credit files.

Applied on Saturday night and received a phone call on Sunday morning to confirm my details.

They have accepted me for a credit card and given me a £250 starting limit!

I just wondered what everyone else experiences were?

I will have to check all of the small print once it all arrives.

Apart from the salesman trying to flog me the insurance policy, (I really had to tell him that I wasn't interested and to stop trying to force me into something that I didnt want) he also told me that I would get 56 days interest free on all card purchases.

I gave him my details and have already setup the direct debit to clear the full balane on the card at the end of each month.

if theres never a debt on there, and you pay it off as soon as it goes on then no interest is due. Not sure about the 56 days interest free...... maybe it has changed. I have the gold card - wow lol now. Just need to clean up my credit history finally and everything should be sorted.

  • You can get "up to" 56 days interest free depending on when you put something on the card and when your minimum payment is due to be paid. This is the same as with pretty much any credit card.
What I do is use my Vanquis card for my petrol, have a DD to pay off the minimum payment, but use my debit card to clear the balance in full each month.
I was discharged in Aug 2011, and was approved by vanquis in Oct 2011. I applied mostly out of curiosity than anything else.
    Feb 2024:
    CC1 6537.66
    CC2 7804.45
    CC3 4221.17
    CC4 2053.68
    CC5 989.30
    Loan 1 3686.44
    Loan 2 5275.22

    Total £30,567.92
  • I was declared bankrupt Nov 2010, ED July 2011, started credit file cleanup Dec 2011, applied for Vanquis Jan 2012, accepted straight away with £500 credit limit at 39.95%.

I'm self employed with a very unsteady income of roughly £29K p.a., married, two kids, renting privately.

Got mine about 5 months after discharge, just had the limit increased to £1250 although I will not be going anywhere near that, pay it off in full every month and will continue to do so.

Completed IVA Feb '11 - spent a lot of time and patience sorting out defaults to satisfiers - applied for Vanquis in July '11 accepted straight away with £500 limit - had letter last week saying it's going up to £1250 after Feb statement..

Never had any problems with them and not paid a penny in interest.

But for those who are awaiting a card from them - mine took three weeks and the PIN arrived before the card - I think the card delivery time depends on which colour scheme you choose (well that's what I heard anyway)
Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.
