I am planningt o go on holiday later this year and take my smart phone to use as a gps.
Iam with 3 and am quite happy with them but I know going over to America can get some hefty charges for data and calls.
Can anyone tell me which pay as you go sim I shoudl get in florida that would give me the data I need and not have me needing to unlock my phone.
Thanks in advance,
Ian

You could order a red pocket sim. For 60 dollars you can get 2GB of internet and unlimited calls and texts0

Would I need to unlock the phone or is it just plug and play?

You need to unlock your phone to use any SIM other than one from Three UK.0

it also depends what phone youve got afaik theres no unlock for iphone4s yetWhat goes around-comes around0

theres no unlock for iphone4s yet
the network it is locked to can unlock it, either for free or for ~£20, also because that is an official unlock it will survive iOS updates.
there's no unofficial unlock that you are talking about, and since all the networks will unlock the phone officially there is very little reason for anyone in the UK to use an unofficial method anyway.0 -
Also tmobile and AT&T payg offer data options that you can use. Just check their respective websites. Like others said, as long as your phone is unlocked, you have several option as far as data is concerned. OTOH, you can get a phone/sim package for next to nothing. Of course it will be a basic phone,t hen you can just pop the sim into your smartphone.0

Forget it. There IS no PAYG data. To use AT&T's pseudo PAYG data, it is a 30 day minimum term, but requires a US Address credit or debit card. Trying a pre-pay credit card bought in the USA doesn;t work either, because they insist on a US Social Security number. Use WiFi instead.0

Totally false. My family in the UK visit the US regularly and have prepaid plans and they just add data daily as they see fit. Also, they have no problems topping up with their UK issued credit cards. OP, you just need to search this forum to see what others are saying.
Tmobile has the $2/day unlimited talk, text, and web, that should suffice for some depending on need.
